Former Rep. Moeller Still Seeks a Tax Hog Heaven

by lewwaters

Moeller GlareThis blog has long said that former 49th Legislative District Representative Jim Moeller never met a tax he didn’t like. In fact, even he credits me with tagging him as “da Taxman” long ago on his facebook page.

Even more so that other tax happy alt-left liberals, Moeller appears gleeful at the prospect of confiscating more and more revenue from the people, falsely believing it’s his job, in his ever increasing desire to increase taxes, “to make sure its NOT on the workers.”

What he simply cannot fathom is that any tax increase or increase in business expense ultimately is passed on to those very workers he frets about in higher costs, higher unemployment, less hours and even fewer actual jobs if businesses come to realize it is just too expensive to operate in Washington State any longer.

Whining and Begging, Still Failing the Community

by lewwaters

Col MonkeyColumbian editor Lou Brancaccio has never hidden his disdain for blogs and bloggers and in years past has laid a portion of blame on blogs for the Lazy C’s declining sales and subscription rate.

But the reality of it is that newspapers and media in general have no one to blame but themselves for the decline.

Long ago many told Lou that if the newspaper were more even handed and equitable in political coverage, not promoting the left more so than the right, they likely would regain many conservative readers that walked away from their product.

His response as usual, “We already endorse about as many Republicans as we do Democrats.”

How many County Councilors does it take to change a light bulb?

by lewwaters

Clark County Council

Three out of Five: But only after an extensive study by the Department of Environmental Services to determine any aspect of environmental depletion, an analysis by the County Auditor to determine whether or not the light bulb is truly in need of changing and the County Tax Assessor to determine whether or not sufficient revenues have been collected to fund the effort.

It will also require three public hearings to receive public comments on whether or not it is in the county’s best interest to change the light bulb or perhaps rewrite county ordinances on just what constitutes a “burned out light bulb”

Thoughts on the DES Dissolution

by lewwaters
Logo of Clark County

Logo of Clark County

Much to the delight of some and consternation of others, this past week saw the abrupt dissolution of the Clark County Department of Environmental Services.

What made it so pleasurable to some is of course, much hated Sen. Don Benton (R 17) was effectively fired from the position he was hired to lead the department and that caused so much controversy, fueled by a near lynch mob mentality led by the local newspaper, the Lazy C.

The firestorm lit off back then has simmered and burned ever since from the left as well as editors and writers employed by the Lazy C, even though none has ever supplied any actual evidence of managerial incompetence, just allegations of not being qualified and of course, the ongoing, decades long hate fest against Benton.

Lazy C Didn’t Always View Public Comment So Sacred

by lewwaters

City Council & Debbie PetersonThe local “newspaper of record,” the Columbian, or as this blog has long referred to them, the Lazy C for their lack of interest in shining light on Democrats, posted a column today, Sunday May 1, 2016 decrying efforts by Port of Vancouver Commissioner Jerry Oliver to bypass public comments recently pertaining to the proposed Oil Terminal.

Oliver gave as his reason, “They don’t come down to talk. They come down to protest.”

This seems to have raised the ire of the Lazy C editorial staff that opposes the terminal as the state in their Sunday column, “Attempting to stifle public comment no way to mitigate oil terminal concerns.”

Purity, Exclusion and Eternal Victims

by lewwaters

Elephant 3This blog has long warned of the infiltration and planned takeover of the Republican Party by fringe right leaning Libertarian types normally associated with past campaigns of three time failed presidential candidate, Ron Paul.

I have been scoffed at, ridiculed, verbally assaulted and targeted by these same people in comments on this blog and other forums for pointing out the obvious intent of their deciding that they must take over the party for some reason.

Two years ago I exposed an effort by one of their number to “stack PCO positions” with those favorable to their point of view that led to me completely severing any supportive relationship that might have existed between me and the local GOP.

Councilor Madore, Have You No Shame?

by lewwaters

Madore, GlarePolitics is said to be a blood sport. But even politics is regulated by laws and regulations concerning campaigning and, more importantly a little common sense is needed in how a candidate or elected official acts in public if they desire to hold or win office.

Clark County Councilor David Madore seems to believe such measures do not apply to him as he continues to dig himself deeper and deeper into a hole of irrelevancy while announcing his intent of running for reelection.

His latest escapade is mind-boggling in that he claims to be ferreting out corruption, but engages in a form of corruption against a private citizen himself.

Brancaccio’s Bocce Blunder

by lewwaters

Brancaccio FuggedaboutitLazy C editor has responded to criticism of his “Bocce Bedlam” party in a special Press Talk editorial this morning, “The ethics of getting to know you” where he essentially scoffs at the notion of anything out of the ordinary in his throwing such a party and inviting selected elected officials.

This blog covered the concerns being expressed at Editors, Politicians and Bocce Ball, Oh My! It is notable that the bulk of the concerns were not issued by the usual slate of conservative critics of Brancaccio but by liberals usually more supportive of Brancaccio and the paper.

That aspect alone should concern Brancaccio but seems to have slid right past him.

Editors, Politicians and Bocce Ball, Oh My!

by lewwaters

Bocce AdIt seems our esteemed editor of the local Lazy C, ol Lefty Lou Brancaccio himself, hosted a Bocce Ball Tournament at his home recently that has drawn notice for the guests in attendance. Or, as Lou describes it, Bocce bedlam

And no, it isn’t those of us often critical of the paper and Liberal Democrats raising their eyebrow over it, but a prominent member of C3G2, Michele Wollert that senses a conflict of interest in an editor hosting those he is also expected to be critical of for fun and frivolity into his home.

On the C3G2 facebook page Michele asks;

Lazy C: Eulogizing and Hypocrisy

by lewwaters

Brancaccio FoolOur community suffered a grave loss last week with the death of John McKibbin and his passenger, Irene Mustain when McKibbin’s North American AT-6 crashed into the Columbia River.

I never had much interaction with McKibbin that I can recall, although I do believe our paths likely crossed at some community events, enabling me to once video tape him in his airplane, starting it, taxiing and later flying overhead.

A former County Commissioner, legislator and community leader, he was well liked and honored in the community and will be well remembered, I am certain. And by all accounts, an honorable man.

Benton Praised by Progressive Democrat

by lewwaters

Who knew that a Progressive Democrat like Sen Maralyn Chase (D 32) would get emotional bidding Sen Don Benton (R 17) farewell as the State Senate paid him tribute upon his coming retirement after being elected to the Senate 5 times now?

The Lazy C mentioned the comments in their article State Senate pays tribute to longtime legislator Benton, but the raw emotion of her words are not able to be discerned in it.

Now That the Shoe is on the Other Foot

by lewwaters

Madore, Stuart SneeringI recall the quick animosity that developed and that we all saw very soon after David Madore was sworn in, along with Tom Mielke after the 2012 elections. We saw how for many years, Mielke was the lone voice of conservatism on the County Commission, often sidelined by the votes of Democrat Steve Stuart and Marc Boldt, allegedly a Republican.

We all grew tired of the one-sided votes and after funding candidates previously that didn’t win, Madore ran himself in the 2012 election and won.

That relegated Stuart to the lone Liberal on the County Commission and as expected that did not set well with him after so many years of calling the shots.

Lefty Lou and C3G2’s Overblown Jubilation

by lewwaters

Benton, Columbian Hate HeadlineFrom the excitement and gleeful comments both under Lazy C articles and over on C3G2 concerning State Senator Don Benton’s announcement that he will not seek a 6th term, you might believe the man simply evaporated from the face of the earth, instead of just announcing not seeking another term.

Lefty Lou Brancaccio is predictably beside himself as he penned a special Press Talk editorial today, Monday February 1, 2016, the announcement coming out after his usual Saturday smearing of those “M&M Boys” or Benton.

Clean Up Your Own Mess, Lazy C

by lewwaters

Boris ColumbianThe Lazy C’s In Our View editorial for today, Jan. 22, 2016, “Clean Up Your Mess” addresses pollution being cleaned up in Hazel Dell, a problem discovered several years ago when chromium was found in our water.

Of course, in usual Lazy C fashion, they present it as how evil and irresponsible businesses are, even though if memory serves me, the company operated under regulations in place at the time, but new regulations passed put them in a violation.

I can’t help but feel this is just another of their more subliminal stabs against the proposed Oil Terminal that may be constructed at the Port of Vancouver.

Disputing Jayne’s “Indisputable Evidence”

by lewwaters

Egg on FaceThat the Lazy C despises Republicans is well known in these parts and is likely the only real “indisputable fact” in all of Southwest Washington. And let’s face it; the local Republican Party makes it very easy for them with their ineptness and underhanded shenanigans to cling to control of the county party over keeping people informed.

But, the Lazy C’s Greg Jayne, in finally admitting he is the Liberal we always believed him to be, should have done his homework before posting his latest Sunday editorial: “Republican Party abandoned its most worthy ideals,” where he pretty much seems to indicate anything worthy of them was only when they acted more Liberal than Democrats.

He laments how they deny Gorebull warming even though the Environmental Protection Agency was created by Republican Richard Nixon in 1970.

The Divide Widens

by lewwaters

Boxer WomenClark County saw its first full five member council mandated by the home rule charter to replace the three member county commission last evening and as I suspected, it has nothing to do with “Good Governance” or making anything in the county better.

No, it is as I predicted, all about slapping down councilors Madore and Mielke, both of whom are up for reelection later this year.

Shortly before Christmas, they rushed through eight resolutions that even the Lazy C all but admitted were meaningless, carrying no actual weight and as one commenter said, “a complete waste of time” to pass.

What We Really Need Is Good Paying Jobs

by lewwaters

Tenement 3Not too surprising to see the Lazy C editorializing in the Sunday edition, “Make Housing Affordable” with, “In order to thrive, our community must accommodate young families, newcomers.”

Wasn’t it years worth of pushing for more and more “affordable housing” that led to the mortgage bubble that burst and saw our economy tank?

How about instead of pushing for more government involvement in housing, government and envirowackos get out of the way and allow some good paying, family wage middle class jobs be created instead of pushing for taxpayer subsidized playgrounds for the wealthy like the concrete jungle planned for the waterfront?

Are Marc Boldt and C3G2 in For a Rude Awakening?

by lewwaters

Crying BabyWe are poised to embark on the next chapter of Clark County as the dust from the last election has settled and we move to a 5 person County Council and away from the long held 3 person County Commission.

As we know, the County Commission style of governance has be replaced after decades of functioning for the left because voters moved it right in 2012, shortly after seeing one Commissioner, Steve Stuart, throw a hissy fit and stomp off rather than accept he no longer called all of the shots.

From day one of the new Commission in 2012, the Lazy C, laughingly referred to as a “newspaper” locally, set their sights on ripping control away from the right and replacing power to the left.

Media Ignores Their Own “Cognitive Dissonance”

by lewwaters

Egg on FaceAn interesting editorial in the Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015 edition of the Lazy C by Greg Jayne, Lazy C Opinion Editor: Dislike those in government? Then stop electing them.

He sets the tone within the very first paragraph, “The problem, apparently, is cognitive dissonance. Sure, we have concerns about terrorism and the economy and health care, but when it comes to this country’s inability to tackle problems, the real issue is our inability to think straight.”

Since Jayne bases this screed on “Cognitive Dissonance,” we should know just what that means before going on. The simplest definition I found was, “the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change.”

Will Lefty’s One Man ‘Putsch’ Backfire?

by lewwaters

Brancaccio GoebbelsI can only imagine the disappointment felt by Lazy C editor, ol Lefty Lou Brancaccio as a major terrorist attack in Paris France last week pushed his weekly rant against County Councilor David Madore back one week.

Sorry Lou, but there really are things more important than your personal vendetta.

Be that as it may, ol Lefty postponed his weekly rant, the 90th Press Talk editorial denigrating Madore to today to pile on a matter from nearly a month ago that had Lou and the rest down at the Lazy C all charged up on the eve of the Nov. 3 election, an email sent by Madore to County Manager Mark McCauley that left Mark feeling insecure in his position as one of the ‘reporters’ writing was seen throughout the day feeding rumors to a facebook group set up after hopes of a recall fell flat.
