Just What Is a “Real Republican?”

by lewwaters

Elephant 3Since the Clark County Republican Party took their suicidal plunge towards irrelevancy this past Saturday, I now see increasing comments regarding “Real Republicans,” indicating Republican candidates and incumbents such as candidate for County Council District 3 John Blom, incumbent 18th Legislative District State Senator Ann Rivers and incumbent 3rd Congressional District Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler are not “Real Republicans.”

Claims are that this declaration is based upon their voting records in the case of Herrera Beutler and Rivers and that Blom’s votes on the Planning Commission do not reflect those preferred by the leaders of the Clark County Republican Party or outgoing County Councilor, David Madore.

In the case of Blom, Madore showed himself to be an extremely poor loser last evening by labeling Blom and several others as “politicians [that] wage war against citizens and against faithful citizen representatives” and “those falsely campaigning as an R.”

Primary: Winners and Losers

by lewwaters

I VotedAll ballots have been counted and the election department is reporting a final tally of who remains to move ahead to the general election. Nothing has actually changed from early results other than in the 17th Legislative District Senate race where Lynda Wilson pulled ahead of Tim Probst by a razor thin margin.

That race alone should tell you all how important single votes can be as Lynda finishes a scant 50 votes ahead of Probst.

And if you recall, this same Senate seat was won by Don Benton in 2012 by a mere 74 votes over Tim Probst who initially felt he had it in the bag then.

In his usual bluster, Probst felt he had a sure thing this time as well, but once again came in second by a handful of votes. Time will tell if that carries forward in the general or not.

The Dust from the Primary Settles

by lewwaters

PoliticianWe are now 2 days past the primary election and overall, I am pleased with most results. Voters have shown their preference for who they desire to advance to the November General election.

While there are still ballots to be counted, it is unlikely any race will see much in the way of change, other than which candidate in the top two primary comes out on top, as in the race for the 17th Legislative District Senate race between Republican Lynda Wilson and former Representative, Democrat Tim Probst.

As of last evenings count, Lynda trailed by 46 votes and is expected to pass Probst today.

Here Comes ‘Da Taxman’

by lewwaters
Moeller, Spread Watermarked

Jim Moeller

Possibly the worst kept secret in town, long time 49th legislative district representative, Jim Moeller, labeled ‘da taxman’ by this blog due to his love of taxing the middle class (he claims to oppose the B&O tax) has switched his goal from being elected Lt. Governor of our state, as previously announced with his focus now on defeating 3rd Congressional District Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler.

Herrera Beutler, a Republican has held the seat since she was first elected in 2010 after Democrat Brian Baird decided to retire. She has so far held o ff challenges in the primaries from disgruntled Republicans that see her as ‘not pure enough’ and has easily defeated Democrat challengers.

Jim Moeller to Run For Lt. Governor

by lewwaters

Moeller, likely the furthermost left leaning Democrat in Southwest Washington has announced in 2016 he will leave the seat in the 49th Legislative District he has held for over a decade in order to run for Lt. Governor.

Moeller, a homosexual activist that led the fight to bring homosexual marriage to Washington State, says he will work for stricter gun control, $15 minimum wage and a capital gains tax, tax increases being his signature goal that earned him the nickname ‘Da Taxman.’

Who Are The Real Culprits?

by lewwaters

Earlier in the month, the Lazy C saw fit to publish a series of Letters to the Editor condemning the actions of officials in killing off the CRC light rail project.

We read,

“Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, has burned any and all bridges when it comes to starting a new dialogue about the construction of a new Interstate 5 Bridge.”

“There is solid evidence that Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, worked hard to kill the Columbia River Crossing project because she was opposed to light rail coming into Vancouver.”

“The most important reason to build a new Columbia River bridge is safety. When the big earthquake strikes this area, the bridge will collapse and many people will die. An eastern bridge won’t help.”

Spider Freezes Traffic

by lewwaters

An unusually large spider disrupted the I-5 northbound commute as it held off traffic trying to cross the bridge into Clark County about two hours.

I-5 Spider

Light rail would not have made it across either, Rep. Moeller😉

2014 Election Predictions

by lewwaters

Voting boothI usually shy away from predicting the outcome of elections, but decided I’d throw my two cents in concerning the Clark County, Washington elections in November. It’s a bit early, yes and predictions are subject to change as information comes available. But this initial post will indicate how I see the outcome of the elections.

A disclaimer of sorts, these predictions are solely based on how I see the current information and read the current political tea leaves and are by no means infallible. They also may not be how I would personally like to see a race come out, but are how I view the reality of it.

First, apologies to the people in the 14th and 20th Legislative Districts. Your districts cross county lines and I simply do not have access to other counties at this time, so I am unable to predict how those races will go.

Real Congestion Relief? Fuggedaboutit!

by lewwaters

Brancaccio FuggedaboutitNow that the plug has been pulled on the bloated CRC light rail project, it is very apparent that proponents of that boondoggle are going to oppose any and every suggestion to actually work towards easing congestion along the I-5 Corridor through Vancouver, out of pure, hateful spite.

Never mind that their darling light rail extension from Portland that commanded the project never enjoyed the support of Clark County citizens, it was light rail or nothing at all, evidence by the calls of “no light rail, no bridge” from several proponents.

Figg Engineering has now provided the community with a proposal for an East County Bridge , a proposal they drew up at no charge to taxpayers. Contrast that to the CRC light rail project that sucked over $200 Million away from taxpayers, leaving us with nothing to show for our money, just bitter memories of out of touch elected officials ignoring our voices and attempting to go against our desires.

It’s Not “Madore’s Bridge”

by lewwaters

This blog no longer supports David Madore and calls upon him to resign immediately!

I-5 Bridge 09As expected, CRC fanatics, still stinging from the defeat of their light rail extension being forced into Clark County against citizen will, are lining up to oppose the recently unveiled East County Bridge proposal given by Linda Figg of Figg Engineering.

One way they are forming their opposition is by linking the concept directly to County Commissioner David Madore, who seems only too happy to see his name and photo appearing in the pages of the papers again.

The Lazy C told us in their article on the presentation, “Firm pitches option for Madore’s idea of east county bridge over Columbia,” and that the idea is “Championed by Clark County Commissioner David Madore.”

Even Democrats Not Safe From Jim Moeller’s “Garbage”

by lewwaters

I’ve already given a couple examples of Jim Moeller (D 49) own “garbage” he has expressed over time towards Republicans. But his “garbage” has not been reserved solely for the Republicans. Anybody that is not in lock-step with Moeller is subjected to such “garbage.”

For a refresher over this 2012 incident, please see Of “Self Inflicted Wounds” and “Fairly Horrible Experiences” and Why Was Jon Haugen ‘Sanctioned’ By the Democrats?

Jim Moeller’s “Garbage” Pt. 3

Jim Moeller’s “Garbage” Pt. 2

by lewwaters

Part two showing some of the “garbage” that has come from Rep Jim Moeller (D. 49) over the years, since he wrote under a Lazy C post,

“I can hardly believe some of the garbage that comes out of (so-called) Republican mouths. It’s time the moderates jettison the religious-right and Tea-Party factions within the Republican party and have them form their own.”

I can’t help but wonder why he campaigned against outgoing President Bush and International issues instead of what he planned to do as a state legislator.

Jim Moeller’s “Garbage” Pt. 1

by lewwaters

Very recently, Rep Jim Moeller (D. 49) wrote a comment under a Lazy C post,

“I can hardly believe some of the garbage that comes out of (so-called) Republican mouths. It’s time the moderates jettison the religious-right and Tea-Party factions within the Republican party and have them form their own.”

With that thought in mind, I looked back at some of Jim Moeller’s own speeches and will be periodically posting video excerpts of the “garbage” we have seen coming from him over the years. First part above.

Makes Sense

by lewwaters

If Sharon Wylie, Jim Moeller and Annette Cleveland all agree that only “some of the things they do makes sense,” does that mean they realize some of the other things they do make no sense at all?

Don’t you agree it is time we elected people that will work to do things that “make sense” all of the time?

Burning Bridges or Building Bridges?

by lewwaters
Liz Pike & Ann Rivers

Liz Pike & Ann Rivers

If there ever was a doubt in your mind that the Columbia River Crossing was not really about replacing the aging, but useable bridges crossing the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington, disgruntled proponents of now comatose project lay that to rest.

All along, through to excessive years of planning, studying, lying, obfuscating and coercing of the public in order to force Portland’s financially struggling light rail a very short distance into Clark County, thereby accessing a fresh revenue source for their folly, opponents in Clark County have voiced support for not only a bridge without light rail, but more crossings to the east and the west of the current crossing.

Anybody with a slight bit of sense realizes that an eight to ten year period of construction of new bridges alongside the existing span is bound to increase traffic congestion. With the movement of construction worker and equipment, it is unavoidable, that is a given.

Hey Lefty, Your Facade Is Slipping

by lewwaters

donkey-eyesReminiscent of an editorial after Barack Obama won his chance to dismantle American freedoms in 2008, now comes Lazy C editor, ‘Lefty’ Lou Brancaccio with yet another smokescreen call of “come together.”

Now, as then, it is nothing more than a partisan call to isolate those he dislikes, conservative Republicans and fall into step with his preferred socialistic and beloved Democrats as we see the call is always “come together” under Democrats with him.

The editorial, Press Talk: It’s time to move forward is nothing more than another thinly veiled attack against conservative Republicans, focusing on the same three, Benton, Mielke & Madore that we have seen every week for months now.

CRC Dead? Or Just In A Coma, Again?

by lewwaters

I-5 Bridge 02I can’t say it is unexpected, given strong citizen opposition and poor support in the Oregon legislature, but news is out that Oregon Governor Kitzhaber’s Sunday, March 9 deadline for funding an “Oregon Only” CRC plan to ram their financially failing light rail onto Clark County will see the demise of the project, again.

We heard this before, though. Just last year the Washington Senate failed to bring a funding measure to the floor, effectively ending Washington State’s involvement in the boondoggle.

But special interests hell bent on forcing light rail across the Columbia River, thereby enhancing their bank accounts, revived the project under an ill-advised “Oregon Only” plan, where the state of Oregon appeared to take on construction by themselves and funding to be placed on the backs of Clark County commuters with expensive tolling.
