Updated: Madore Prematurely Asked to Step Down

by lewwaters

Madore 003At the Aug 23, 2016 County Council Meeting, former Commissioner Ed Barnes, citing being called upon to step down early after Jeanne Stewart was elected so she could take over, called upon controversial councilor David Madore to step down since he was defeated in the primary.

I understand his sentiment, but Ed forgets that there is not yet a candidate elected as Ms. Stewart was.

Ed was also mistaken in his assertion that then fellow Commissioners Madore and Mielke asked the County Prosecutor to call upon Ed to step down early. Since Ed was appointed to fulfill the rest of Steve Stuart’s term, after Stuart resigned to take a better job, State Law says he had to step down once a permanent Commissioner was elected in the General Election, as was explained.

Whining and Begging, Still Failing the Community

by lewwaters

Col MonkeyColumbian editor Lou Brancaccio has never hidden his disdain for blogs and bloggers and in years past has laid a portion of blame on blogs for the Lazy C’s declining sales and subscription rate.

But the reality of it is that newspapers and media in general have no one to blame but themselves for the decline.

Long ago many told Lou that if the newspaper were more even handed and equitable in political coverage, not promoting the left more so than the right, they likely would regain many conservative readers that walked away from their product.

His response as usual, “We already endorse about as many Republicans as we do Democrats.”

Primary: Winners and Losers

by lewwaters

I VotedAll ballots have been counted and the election department is reporting a final tally of who remains to move ahead to the general election. Nothing has actually changed from early results other than in the 17th Legislative District Senate race where Lynda Wilson pulled ahead of Tim Probst by a razor thin margin.

That race alone should tell you all how important single votes can be as Lynda finishes a scant 50 votes ahead of Probst.

And if you recall, this same Senate seat was won by Don Benton in 2012 by a mere 74 votes over Tim Probst who initially felt he had it in the bag then.

In his usual bluster, Probst felt he had a sure thing this time as well, but once again came in second by a handful of votes. Time will tell if that carries forward in the general or not.

How many County Councilors does it take to change a light bulb?

by lewwaters

Clark County Council

Three out of Five: But only after an extensive study by the Department of Environmental Services to determine any aspect of environmental depletion, an analysis by the County Auditor to determine whether or not the light bulb is truly in need of changing and the County Tax Assessor to determine whether or not sufficient revenues have been collected to fund the effort.

It will also require three public hearings to receive public comments on whether or not it is in the county’s best interest to change the light bulb or perhaps rewrite county ordinances on just what constitutes a “burned out light bulb”

What Part of “INDEPENDENT” is Misunderstood?

by lewwaters

024It seems a small but vocal fringe element we have seen highjacking conservatism and the Republican Party are very upset. My guess is seeing Councilor David Madore kicked to the curb in the latest election is difficult for them to accept since he holds some mysterious messiah like position with them.

As with all miscreants, someone besides themselves must be to blame when things don’t go as they envision they should and they begin lashing out at whoever they feel is an easy target.

Ever since this blog exposed their efforts at PCO stacking two years ago, it has been one of the favored targets, they actually setting up what they think is an anonymous “Watch” blog site to critique and counter the efforts here.

We all need a Break, Mr. Madore

by lewwaters

Before going to bed last night, I was utterly speechless to see soon to be former County Councilor David Madore lashing out once again against his Republican opponent, John Blom. Although I lost what respect I once had for Madore, due to his personal actions against me, I didn’t realize what a sore loser he tends to be.

I guess last year’s fateful write-in effort running Liz Pike for the Council Chair position he lost should have been a tip-off.

Waking up this morning, though, I see Mr. Madore, either by a little well applied common sense or that someone slapped him upside the head with a reality check, decided to delete the smearing post against John Blom, posted below and announcing that he intends to take a break until August 15.

The Dust from the Primary Settles

by lewwaters

PoliticianWe are now 2 days past the primary election and overall, I am pleased with most results. Voters have shown their preference for who they desire to advance to the November General election.

While there are still ballots to be counted, it is unlikely any race will see much in the way of change, other than which candidate in the top two primary comes out on top, as in the race for the 17th Legislative District Senate race between Republican Lynda Wilson and former Representative, Democrat Tim Probst.

As of last evenings count, Lynda trailed by 46 votes and is expected to pass Probst today.

Sour Grapes Goes Down Bitter

by lewwaters

Madore, Glare WatermarkAccording to the Columbian’s Katie Gillespie tweets earlier this morning, a Cowlitz County judge has dismissed all of the recall petitions filed recently by out going County Councilor, Tom Mielke.

It remains to be seen if the decision will be accepted or if more sour grapes will ensue as Councilor Madore struggles to retain his grasp in Clark County.

Katie Gillespie reports, “A Cowlitz County Judge has dismissed all allegations by Councilor Tom Mielke in his recall petition against his fellow councilors.  None, he says, meet the legal requirements for a recall petition.”

Updated: Flyers in the Ointment

by lewwaters

Madore, Glare WatermarkCounty Councilor David Madore lost control of the County Council, formerly known as the County Commission, once the home rule charter was implemented and it changed from three people to five people.

He ran for the position of chair and lost that election, causing him to launch a write-in campaign that Rep. Liz Pike (R 17) unwisely allowed her name to be attached to. He lost that election too.

It is now easily seen that voters are displeased with him, many regretting they even voted for him back in 2012.

Even though he frequently says he will abide by the will of the people, we have also seen that it is only some of the people he is willing to abide by their will, part and parcel of why he continues to lose elections.

R. Dean Report Blasts Madore

by lewwaters

Madore, Glare WatermarkRebecca Dean, brought in to investigate allegations flying back and forth at county has released her report, available at INVESTIGATION REPORT.

In it I read at least 15 times the comment “Madore’s Statement is False.”

Mr. Orjiako’s allegation of racially motivated is also found lacking, although the report does state, ““Nevertheless, there is some limited evidence of racial animus by Madore, as the “race card” graphic Madore posted on his website is an effort to demean or discredit Orjiako’s sincere and deeply felt belief that Madore was motivated by Orjiako’s race and national origin.”

Moving Forward, Ignoring the Hatred

by lewwaters
Madore, Glare Watermark

David Madore

Clark County has become a microcosm of the bitter political divide seen throughout America as fringe elements on both sides of the aisle duke it out for control and more power in their hands to rule over us.

But that isn’t what our country was founded to be. I was taught that we were to be a shining example of diverse views meeting in the middle to hammer out disagreements and agree on solutions that would best benefit all, not just one side or the other.

Although I initially opposed it, we saw an effort at undoing such control by passing a home rule charter that stripped one such demagogue, David Madore, of the dictatorial powers he was exercising over the County once he was elected to the County Commission.

Alliances

by lewwaters

HandshakeFor purposes in this post, Alliance is defined as “a merging of efforts or interests by persons” to further a common goal. That goal being to lessen, if not end the bitter political divide we in the United States and Clark County, Washington see ourselves in.

Many of us, Independents, Liberal Democrats and Conservative Republicans have recognized that we do have elements from both sides of the aisle pitting us against each other to further their own quest for more power and rule over us, some even laughingly claiming all they wish to do once in control is “leave everybody alone.”

We saw this push for power just a few years ago from the left as they threw all caution to the wind, ignored the voice of the people and pushed ahead with a severely flawed plan to force citizens into accepting the light rail from Portland we had voted down before in the now comatose Columbia River Crossing light rail / bridge project, costing taxpayers some $200 Million.

Clark County Council District Four

by lewwaters
Logo of Clark County

Logo of Clark County

With the announcement of Tom Mielke not running for another term as Clark County Councilor for District 4, three citizens have stepped up to vie for that seat and represent citizens of Clark County as we still work out the bugs on the recently adopted Home rule Charter.

Although I have strived to remain out of campaigns the last couple elections, several people have requested I reengage in assessing candidates running for office and given the egregious behavior of District 3 incumbent Councilor Madore, both on the Council and towards me personally, I feel compelled to add my two cents in this year’s election.

I previously endorsed John Blom for District 3, having seen that the incumbent David Madore has not acted in the best interest of the County and has only sought deeper divisions as well as attempting to bully the majority of the Council from his minority status. His behavior must not be rewarded.

Given that; I will give my personal assessment of each and endorsement below.

“Burning Bridges Lost Forevermore”

by lewwaters

This post was written a couple months ago out of frustration. I had intended to not post it, but given events of late against me once again, I feel it proper and in the best interest of the county to post and assist in David Madore’s exit from county government.

It is pretty well known that I lost what trust and respect I had for County Councilmember David Madore some time ago over some personal actions he took against me. Still, even with losing my support I did not jump into the rabid opposition of him seen almost daily on places like C3G2 or comments under negative articles, editorials and columns posted by the Lazy C.

An argument could even be made that I was posting and commenting in defense of his positions as the newly seated Council majority placed an urgency on undoing every last minute action he took and passed just prior to the new Council being seated, seeing their urgency causing more division with the people than we need.

It took me totally by surprise to open facebook on January 14, 2016 and find a message from him to Kelly Hinton that he made sure to copy to me directly, largely blasting me and seeming to place a large portion of blame on me for his losses in the last election as well as expressing some apparent inaccuracies pertaining to past incidents.

Thoughts on the DES Dissolution

by lewwaters
Logo of Clark County

Logo of Clark County

Much to the delight of some and consternation of others, this past week saw the abrupt dissolution of the Clark County Department of Environmental Services.

What made it so pleasurable to some is of course, much hated Sen. Don Benton (R 17) was effectively fired from the position he was hired to lead the department and that caused so much controversy, fueled by a near lynch mob mentality led by the local newspaper, the Lazy C.

The firestorm lit off back then has simmered and burned ever since from the left as well as editors and writers employed by the Lazy C, even though none has ever supplied any actual evidence of managerial incompetence, just allegations of not being qualified and of course, the ongoing, decades long hate fest against Benton.

What Drives Brancaccio?

by lewwaters

L. Brancaccio

In yet another of the endless rants against conservatives, primarily County Councilors Madore, & Mielke and Sen. Don Benton, Lazy C editor Lou Brancaccio adds to his plethora of sardonic screeds, Press Talk: What drives Madore?

As is to be expected, Brancaccio, or ol Lefty Lou as he is better known in these parts, engages in his usual self aggrandizing of just how right he always is and of course, how wrong people like Madore always are.

In fact, he pats himself on the back so much over the years I can’t fathom why his shirts aren’t threadbare on the backs.
