No Bragging Rights for Clark County Republicans, Must be Restructured

by lewwaters

UPDATE: The Clark County Republican Party did elect a new chair, someone not to the liking of the previous leadership that now sees their power slipping away and in usual fashion, engage in vitriolic attacks, smears and pure hatred of a view different than their own.

The result? Infighting roils local Republican Party

Welcome to the club, Mr. Gellatly

Before the Clark County Republican Party begins crowing on how successful they were in local elections, I’d like to remind all of you that many of the Republicans winning their election were either not endorsed, not supported and at least one outright opposed by the Clark County Republicans.

Party officials voted not only not to endorse Republican John Blom, who along with Democrat Tanisha Harris, handily defeated County Councilor David Madore in the primary for County Council, District 3, but to actually oppose his campaign against Harris. He won.

Flyers in the Ointment, Part Two: Updated

by lewwaters

CCGOP LogoReaders will recall the July 23, 2016 post, Flyers in the Ointment addressing the Clark County Republican Party mailing out flyers that promoted favored candidates over others in direct violation of their bylaws.

In a subsequent post this blog mentioned their displeasure in seeing Republican John Blom defeat incumbent Republican David Madore and more will be being released here in following days.

Below is a short excerpt of audio sent me of a Friday, Aug. 13 committee meeting at the Clark County GOP headquarters where such displeasure was being expressed along with efforts to justify violating their own bylaws with the questionable mailers.

Purity, Exclusion and Eternal Victims

by lewwaters

Elephant 3This blog has long warned of the infiltration and planned takeover of the Republican Party by fringe right leaning Libertarian types normally associated with past campaigns of three time failed presidential candidate, Ron Paul.

I have been scoffed at, ridiculed, verbally assaulted and targeted by these same people in comments on this blog and other forums for pointing out the obvious intent of their deciding that they must take over the party for some reason.

Two years ago I exposed an effort by one of their number to “stack PCO positions” with those favorable to their point of view that led to me completely severing any supportive relationship that might have existed between me and the local GOP.

Rep. Harris Responds to Bullying Tactic

by lewwaters

After receiving a threatening letter from Christian Berrigan, State Committeeman for the Clark County Washington Republican Party, of withholding support in any reelection bid if he attended the Republicans of Clark County event, Rep. Paul Harris (17th) responded while attending the ROCC Ronald Reagan Birthday Celebration Dinner on February 6, 2016 in Vancouver, Washington at the Heathman Lodge.

I can’t think it is anything but downright silly to try to bully candidates to not campaign before certain groups of people because you might not like that group. After all, that is what political candidates do.

Election Hangovers & Gloating

by lewwaters

I VotedWell, we made it through to Wednesday and it’s all over for some candidates while some others remain to be sorted out as ballots continue trickling in and being counted.

In all, I have no complaints on this election, save I was hoping to see Maria Salazar shake things up a bit in Ridgefield and breakup that good old boy club atmosphere out there. Sadly her race went to the incumbent, but Maria ran a good race, facing a whisper campaign of unsavory gossip about her.

The most watched race, Clark County Council Chair remains undecided whether it will go to Battle Ground Council Member Mike Dalesandro of former Clark Commissioner Marc Boldt.

Updated: Look Before You Leap, If Only

by lewwaters

“We should boldly speak the truth without apology, even when it is negative.” – David Madore, October 30, 2011

ConfusedPolitics is said to be a blood sport and all too often, campaigns perpetrate untruths about opponents. Sometimes knowingly and sometimes due to lack of actually looking before making claims about an opponent, not “looking before they leap.”

I think we all remember then candidate David Madore sending out a flyer with claims against then Commissioner Marc Boldt that were easily exposed as not factual and his subsequent flyer apologizing to Boldt, showing that Madore relied on hearsay and did not adequately vet the information he was given.

It appears nothing was learned from then as now we see the same action coming from Madore, Christian Berrigan and a few others involved in the Write-in Liz Pike PAC.

Who in the Hell is Sean Emerson to Try to Dictate What is Posted on This Blog?

by lewwaters

Tinker Never SleepsLiberty: the state or condition of people who are able to act and speak freely; the power to do or choose what you want to; a political right.

As you all know, this blog and its author have been under anonymous assault for a few months now from operatives of the Clark County R3publican Party. The party posting the endless series of assault labeled himself “I. Tinker,” and said of the choice of anonymity,

“When we first started LWW, there was discussion of whether we should be up front with who we are or whether we should stay anonymous. It was a difficult decision, but we went the way we did because Lew’s prime weapon in his arsenal is to identify his critics, and then silence or marginalize them with heated ad hominem attacks. Basically he uses his position as The Clark County Conservative to just bury his detractors in mud. So we made a tactical decision to not give him the target on which to use his favorite – and it turns out his only – weapon.”

Hypocrisy of the Highest Order

by lewwaters

Referring back to the smear effort against me of late over exposing the secretive effort of Christian Berrigan to selectively “create a situation where THEY OFFER to withdraw,” the utter hypocrisy of the effort and the subsequent smear is evident in an interview of Berrigan when he ran for WSRP Chair last year.

You can view the full interview at Victory Girls, a blog that I have the utmost respect for.

VG: What will you do to combat the corruption and back room dealings so prevalent in the WSRP and RLCWA?

CB: First and foremost, be intolerant of it when it occurs. Culturally, educate our party leaders as to how that kind of activity demoralizes, deflates and discourages our grassroots. Show them examples of how some of our best people get alienated when they are treated unfairly. Demonstrate how fair play makes defeat more palatable, and makes it easier for people to cooperate after a loss. Systemically, codify reforms into our state bylaws where appropriate, and encourage counties to take similar action appropriate to them. Personally, I will not tolerate the temptation to use power or position to manipulate an outcome. Our intra-party battles must be waged on a level playing field or we will continue to alienate members and thereby destroy ourselves.

The second round ended up with 59 votes for Hutchison, 46 for Luanne Van Werven who has been serving as interim party chair since Kirby Wilbur’s resignation.
