Purity, Exclusion and Eternal Victims

by lewwaters

Elephant 3This blog has long warned of the infiltration and planned takeover of the Republican Party by fringe right leaning Libertarian types normally associated with past campaigns of three time failed presidential candidate, Ron Paul.

I have been scoffed at, ridiculed, verbally assaulted and targeted by these same people in comments on this blog and other forums for pointing out the obvious intent of their deciding that they must take over the party for some reason.

Two years ago I exposed an effort by one of their number to “stack PCO positions” with those favorable to their point of view that led to me completely severing any supportive relationship that might have existed between me and the local GOP.

Councilor Madore, Have You No Shame?

by lewwaters

Madore, GlarePolitics is said to be a blood sport. But even politics is regulated by laws and regulations concerning campaigning and, more importantly a little common sense is needed in how a candidate or elected official acts in public if they desire to hold or win office.

Clark County Councilor David Madore seems to believe such measures do not apply to him as he continues to dig himself deeper and deeper into a hole of irrelevancy while announcing his intent of running for reelection.

His latest escapade is mind-boggling in that he claims to be ferreting out corruption, but engages in a form of corruption against a private citizen himself.

City Can’t Patch Potholes, but Doubles Mayor’s Salary

by lewwaters

Leavitt LaughingMayor Tim Leavitt swooped into office in the 2009 elections largely due to his numerous claims of opposing tolling a new Interstate Bridge project that saw him flip within weeks of winning to fully supporting them and leading the outgoing Mayor, Royce Pollard to express in an interview, “I want to puke.”

You may desire to grab that vomit bucket again as it is now reported that although Mayor of Vancouver, Washington is only a part-time gig, the salary for the position has now been more than doubled to some $60,000 a year.

Some may think that is an acceptable salary for a Mayor, but it must be remembered that in our community, the day to day functioning of the city is in the hands of a city manager that is paid over $200,000 a year, leaving the Mayor’s position as more of a figurehead that leads the city council, also part-time positions for each.

Clark County, Time for a Mulligan on County Council

by lewwaters

Playground 1Anybody that has ever been around golf for very long knows of “taking a Mulligan.” For those unfamiliar with the term, it means “when a player gets a second chance to perform a certain move or action; usually due to lack of skill or bitter luck. A ‘Do-Over’.”

Witnessing the ongoing friction and antics of the newly seated County Council as they adjust to a five-member council, we see one of the most dysfunctional bodies of government I have ever seen in my life.

It’s easy to point fingers of blame at David Madore and let’s face it; he deserves his share of blame for his own antics, accusing others of criminal acts, corruption and plotting against citizens.

But he isn’t responsible for every last piece of dysfunction either.

Brancaccio’s Bocce Blunder

by lewwaters

Brancaccio FuggedaboutitLazy C editor has responded to criticism of his “Bocce Bedlam” party in a special Press Talk editorial this morning, “The ethics of getting to know you” where he essentially scoffs at the notion of anything out of the ordinary in his throwing such a party and inviting selected elected officials.

This blog covered the concerns being expressed at Editors, Politicians and Bocce Ball, Oh My! It is notable that the bulk of the concerns were not issued by the usual slate of conservative critics of Brancaccio but by liberals usually more supportive of Brancaccio and the paper.

That aspect alone should concern Brancaccio but seems to have slid right past him.

Editors, Politicians and Bocce Ball, Oh My!

by lewwaters

Bocce AdIt seems our esteemed editor of the local Lazy C, ol Lefty Lou Brancaccio himself, hosted a Bocce Ball Tournament at his home recently that has drawn notice for the guests in attendance. Or, as Lou describes it, Bocce bedlam

And no, it isn’t those of us often critical of the paper and Liberal Democrats raising their eyebrow over it, but a prominent member of C3G2, Michele Wollert that senses a conflict of interest in an editor hosting those he is also expected to be critical of for fun and frivolity into his home.

On the C3G2 facebook page Michele asks;

I Should Apply for County Manager too

by lewwaters

Job ApplicationIt is interesting watching County Councilor David Madore’s efforts to see acting County Manager, Mark McCauley ousted from his position instead of verified to become permanent County Manager.

Interesting in that Madore is on record highly praising Mr. McCauley after the former County Administrator, Bill Barron retired shortly after Sen. Don Benton was hired to head the County Department of the Environment in 2013.

It was then County Commissioner Madore that took to his facebook page praising Mr. McCauley saying, “I know Mark well and am very pleased to have such a great choice to run the day to day operations of the county. Mark has served as a competent leader heading up of one our largest departments, general services. His good judgment and ability to work with people add to his many years of proven leadership at Clark County.”

And the Order of the Golden Shovel Goes To;

by lewwaters

Golden ShovelWill Rogers famously quipped, “If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging,” meaning of course, if you find yourself increasingly on shaky ground, especially in politics, reassess your position and approach differently.

Locally, we see County Councilor David Madore, who has announced his intent to run for reelection this year, the brunt of many negative editorials and an increasing din of public opposition.

Madore was elected by a wide margin in 2012 in hopes of seeing a much needed shift to the right in county governance. But it seems winning by such a margin went to his head and he forgot that governing is a team effort, not an authoritative one.

Brandon Vick’s “Right to Try” Should be Law

by lewwaters

Giving credit where it is due, the Lazy C, in a random act of journalism has initiated a 60 Seconds feature in the Sunday newspaper where various officials are interviewed and speak of a key position of theirs in just 60 seconds.

My focus though, is on the following clip from Brandon Vick, Republican Representative from the 18th Legislative District.

Lazy C: Eulogizing and Hypocrisy

by lewwaters

Brancaccio FoolOur community suffered a grave loss last week with the death of John McKibbin and his passenger, Irene Mustain when McKibbin’s North American AT-6 crashed into the Columbia River.

I never had much interaction with McKibbin that I can recall, although I do believe our paths likely crossed at some community events, enabling me to once video tape him in his airplane, starting it, taxiing and later flying overhead.

A former County Commissioner, legislator and community leader, he was well liked and honored in the community and will be well remembered, I am certain. And by all accounts, an honorable man.
