Motive Matters

“Proposed changes in county charter could be awful.” Clark County Democrat Party, May 2011

“exploring the idea of a home rule charter would be a wild goose chase, seeking to solve problems that are nonexistent.” Columbian newspaper editorial, June 3, 2013

As seen above, Democrats especially and even the Lazy C have both adamantly opposed any change to how county government functions over the years. Both led campaigns that saw efforts rejected by voters in 1982, 1997, and 2002.

Another effort received little support in 2011, leading the Lazy C to proclaim in a Cheers & Jeers column,

Cheers: To county commissioners for putting an end to the home rule charter process this year. Inspecting methods of government is always a good idea, but there was no demonstrated need to elect a slate of freeholders to, in essence, draft a county charter that would replace the current system.”

Think Before You Vote

by lewwaters

Although mentioning only the presidency, Politicians at all levels and from both major parties make monkey’s out of us when we don’t do our homework and elect better ones than we have had.

This song was released by singer, songwriter Tom T. Hall, a Democrat in June 1972, an election year where incumbent Republican Richard Nixon defeated Democrat challenger George McGovern in a landslide election, carrying 49 of the 50 states.

Within two years, Nixon became the only U.S. President ever forced to resign in disgrace.

Who in the Hell is Sean Emerson to Try to Dictate What is Posted on This Blog?

by lewwaters

Tinker Never SleepsLiberty: the state or condition of people who are able to act and speak freely; the power to do or choose what you want to; a political right.

As you all know, this blog and its author have been under anonymous assault for a few months now from operatives of the Clark County R3publican Party. The party posting the endless series of assault labeled himself “I. Tinker,” and said of the choice of anonymity,

“When we first started LWW, there was discussion of whether we should be up front with who we are or whether we should stay anonymous. It was a difficult decision, but we went the way we did because Lew’s prime weapon in his arsenal is to identify his critics, and then silence or marginalize them with heated ad hominem attacks. Basically he uses his position as The Clark County Conservative to just bury his detractors in mud. So we made a tactical decision to not give him the target on which to use his favorite – and it turns out his only – weapon.”

It’s Time to Oil the Economy and Get it Moving Again

by lewwaters

In light of the recent release of an Analysis showing the Oil Terminal at Port of Vancouver stands to add $2 Billion to our local economy, I am bringing back up this report from July 2011 showing much of our economic troubles over the past 6 years could be greatly eased by energy companies.

This blog has been and remains a strong advocate for expanding our energy sector responsibly and increasing the use of our own energy resources while so-called “Green” sources remain unperfected, unreliable and overly expensive.

Just about everybody understands the concept of lubricating something to free it up and get it moving. From squeaky door hinges to sliding parts, difficult to open windows to even removing a ring off of a swollen finger, putting a lubricant on it allows it to move freely and gets it moving again.

Although lubricants come in many forms, we commonly refer to them as “oil.” Of course, a good many lubricants are derivatives of oil, just some of the many uses of petroleum. Just a little dab of these lubricants, working the rusted part back and forth and soon, it is moving smoothly again just as it was designed to.

28.38% Voter Turnout? Shame on You Clark County

by lewwaters

Crying BabyThe 2014 Primary Election is behind us now and I have to tell you, it is embarrassing; no it is pathetic that this election saw such a dismal turnout in Clark County, the fourth lowest in the entire state.

Four years ago, 38.99% was the Primary election turnout and even that is ridiculously low. But, 28% is pathetic in a county that remains mired in economic uncertainty and under the shadow of a larger out of state city ready to impose their will upon us at any given moment.

What with so many of you always complaining about Portland calling the shots in our community, the only way to push them back is by voting in capable representatives at all levels willing to stand up to Portland and to remind them we are supposed to be partners in this so-called “metropolitan” region, not just a smaller community they can force their will on, sucking revenues away from and return nothing.

Mike Briggs Wants Your Paycheck

by lewwaters

Mike Briggs, Democrat candidate in the 18th Legislative District speaking to KPSU’s “Raging Moderate” on how he would like to slap more taxes on every middle class taxpayer in some mistaken belief that further burdening struggling families makes education “more affordable.”

Do we really need another tax happy Democrat in Olympia, Washington?

Note to Voters

by lewwaters

Clark County Preliminary Election Results HERE

Vote 1As you know, today is the day to have your ballots in the mail or deposited at an approved drop off location, in order for them to be counted. Tomorrow is too late, so they must be turned in today.

Turnout is expected to be low, unfortunately.

For those not voting because you feel your voice isn’t heard or views fairly represented, throwing your ballot in the trash only ensures you will not be heard or represented. Dig it out of the recycling and cast your vote according to your view. It is the only way your voice will be heard.

It is a privilege few others in the world enjoy. Don’t waste it.

Mike Briggs, Ready To Sell You Out

by lewwaters

For all of you voters still marking your ballots and something to retain should by some miracle, Briggs make it through the top two primary, an excerpt of an interview Briggs had with KPSU’s “the Raging Moderate, not afraid to tact to the left” on June 26, 2014. Full interview can be heard on Briggs’ campaign page.

Such dependence on Portland has contributed to our economic problems in Clark County as they seek more ways to suck our revenues out and entice our citizens to spend their money over there instead of in our own community. Portland needs to become a friendly neighbor to us, not the out of state special interest interested only in what they can take from us.

Crier in Chief

by lewwaters

If he isn’t bashing Republicans, he’s whining and crying about how they mistreat him and don’t do what he wants.

Will we ever see another adult in the White House?
