Senate Republicans Last Minute Cave on Fiscal Cliff Deal

by lewwaters

obama-tears-for-america1Sold out again by spineless Senate Republicans in Washington D.C. who caved to Obama and the Democrats on tax increases.

By a margin of 89-8, the Senate voted to pass the “compromise” bill, averting the so-called fiscal cliff.

In the deal, that no Senators really had time to read, we see the offer of $1 in spending cuts for every $41 in new taxes.

The bill heads to the House now, who may vote either Tuesday or Wednesday.

The 8 voting against the deal are Bennett D-CO; Carper D-DE; Grassley R-IA; Harkin D-IA; Lee, R-UT; Paul R-KY; Rubio R-FL & Shelby R-AL.

Far leftists like Moveon.org are upset over the deal, not seeing the rich being hit for even more taxes.

BOHICA America, Greece here we come.

NO doubt, Jim Moeller will see it as another “glorious moment.”

Ring Out The Old and Ring In The New

by lewwaters

Teabag, madJust hours from now we will be bidding adieu to 2012 and welcoming in 2013 with uncertain prospects in our future.

2012 saw several disappointments for conservatives as the march towards socialism in America increases, embraced by those who fall for whatever canard they are spoon-fed by the leftist pundits in the lamestream media.

Almost unbelievable was seeing Barack Obama, after four dismal years at the helm of the country, easily swept back into office in November. That all indicators point to us being much worse off than when he and his party seized the country, he easily won reelection against Mitt Romney amid more empty promises of how much better he will make the country, even though are more divided today than we have been in several decades.

Celebrity Hypocrites

by lewwaters

Again we watch as liberals and progressives launch yet another assault on our constitutional second amendment rights. Some of the loudest have been the so called celebrities out of Hollywood, California. The below videos brilliantly display Hollywood’s hypocrisy as they demand an end to gun violence, after collecting millions of dollars glorifying gun violence in their movies and hiring armed security guards for themselves.

2012 in review

by lewwaters

Thank you Clark County and those outside of Clark County for a good year blogging. The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

19,000 people fit into the new Barclays Center to see Jay-Z perform. This blog was viewed about 160,000 times in 2012. If it were a concert at the Barclays Center, it would take about 8 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Arming Teachers, How Much Is Your Child’s Life Worth?

by lewwaters
Armed Teacher

The year 2012 is drawing to a close with an unthinkable tragedy fresh in our memories, 28 people, including 20 small children shot dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, their lives cut short by a maniac who first murdered his own Mother, stole her weapons and broke into the school, any motive still unknown.

That it happened 11 days before Christmas makes it all the more tragic and painful for all of the families affected.

Even though school shootings are statistically rare, they are nonetheless tragic and we can no longer feel confident our children are safe in their seats in school.

As expected, the reactions are strong and equally divisive, ranging from calls for more gun control, better treatment for the mentally disturbed, curtailing violent movies and video games and an increasing call for armed security be placed in schools in the way of hired security guards, Police or arming properly trained qualified teachers and school personnel.

Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf RIP

by lewwaters

SchwarzkopfJust seen on Twitter: “AP source: Retired Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf has died in Tampa, Fla.” at the age of 78.

May he rest in peace. Til we meet in Fiddler’s Green, General

More from Politico

Former President George H.W. Bush released the following statement from his hospital bed,

“Barbara and I mourn the loss of a true American patriot and one of the great military leaders of his generation. A distinguished member of that Long Gray Line hailing from West Point, General Norm Schwarzkopf, to me, epitomized the ‘duty, service, country’ creed that has defended our freedom and seen this great Nation through our most trying international crises. More than that, he was a good and decent man — and a dear friend. Barbara and I send our condolences to his wife Brenda and his wonderful family.”

Schwarzkopf’s sister says he passed away from complications with pneumonia.

Vets, whispers, and a little horse sense

by lewwaters

BY REES LLOYD (Reposted by author’s request)

Vet WhispererA great gift to give to veterans with stress this Christmas or for the new year is information about or sponsorship in the unique “Join-Up”® equine therapy program of Monty Roberts, the internationally famous horseman, horse trainer, and humanitarian known as the “Horse Whisperer.”

Roberts’ “Horse Sense & Soldiers” workshops, through his International Join-Up® Organization, are being credited with transforming the lives of veterans wounded by service-related post traumatic stress injury by teaching them to use his unique method of working with, and ultimately “joining up” with, untrained horses without the use of any violence whatsoever.

Vietnam, Through The Eyes Of The Entertainers

by lewwaters

Saigon Dancer aMost of us that served in Vietnam were occasionally treated to some entertainment in the form of Go-Go Dancers, singers and musicians who would come to Vietnam and entertain us.

The best known was the Bob Hope Shows, but few of us were ever actually able to attend one of his Christmas Specials. Most of us who saw such shows were treated to Filipino bands or occasionally Australian or American entertainers.

Not until today did I know that many of those entertainers were not under the USO, but were booked privately to play at various Military Clubs and remote bases, being largely left to their own accord for security and protection, except of course when at a Base camp performing.

From Clark County Conservative

by lewwaters

To All My Liberal Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of all others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wish.

15 Reasons Another Assault Weapons Ban is a Wasted Effort

by lewwaters

AR-15America has seen another tragic incident where a madman has stolen legal weapons, forced his way into an elementary school and murdered 28 people, 20 of them small children. That he took his own life is of little consolation, having saved the state the effort.

As expected, the gun used now receives all blame as all across America, gun-hating politicians once again push for another “Assault Weapons Ban” as the previous such ban expired in 2004. That such a ban did nothing to prevent such murderous events is completely ignored.

Politicians imposed an “Assault Weapons Ban” in September 1994 with a 10 year sunshine clause, allowing it to expire in September 2004. During the time of that ban, we saw the following happen,

Doing the Brancaccio Mescolare

by lewwaters

PinocchioThere are times I am left thinking that the most ardent follower of this blog and Clark County Politics blog is none other than Columbian Editor Lou Brancaccio, who although relegates us to a realm of distant obscurity as well as the blame for the local paper of record seeing decreasing subscriptions rates, often targets us in his Saturday Press Talk column.

Such is the case in his latest Saturday column that appears today, Sunday: A fun blog and conspiracies where two thirds of the column is devoted to “correcting” posts earlier this week exposing the papers obvious bias, The Columbian: Busted Again On Their Pro-Democrat Bias on this blog and Remember the democrats lying over Boldt getting booted out of the GOP? over on Clark County Politics where we shed some light on the bias of the Columbian favoring Democrats and a few missing paragraphs in an AP story showing a darker underside of the Democrat Party they claim does not exist.

About an hour after the posts were put up, the missing paragraphs appeared in an updated version of the Columbian’s article as was acknowledged in my earlier post.

Surviving an Active Shooter Event: Run. Hide. Fight.

by lewwaters

The following video was produced by the city of Houston, Texas and the Department of Homeland Security as a training aid to inform citizens of how to react and what to do to survive an active shooting incident like we have seen lately. While there is some excellent advice, depending on the exact situation a person my find themselves in and of course, the location, they do not mention getting the proper training on the use of a firearm, arming yourself and being prepared to use it if need be.

It is unlikely that any of us would ever be faced with such a situation, but not as unlikely as it once was. It could happen in a location where you cannot run, cannot hide or do not have anything to improvise as a weapon to defend yourself. Buying a gun alone is not good enough. You must be trained, maintain proficiency and be prepared to take a life. If not, you should not arm yourself.

It’s Time to Get Realistic About Gun Control

by lewwaters

Pistol 2Once again, pure evil visited a community in America and the media wasted no airtime informing the world of it. At least 28 people, 20 of them small children lie dead because of the callous act of a lone mentally disturbed gunman who felt he should end so many lives at an Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Barack Obama said, “As a country, we have been through this too many times. Whether it’s an elementary school in Newtown, or a shopping mall in Oregon, or a temple in Wisconsin, or a movie theater in Aurora, or a street corner in Chicago — these neighborhoods are our neighborhoods, and these children are our children. And we’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.”

Mayor Leavitt Takes Stand Against Private Sector Job Growth

by lewwaters

LeavittAgain we see so-called leaders of the city of Vancouver, Washington turning a blind eye to the plight of citizens not only in the city, but in nearby communities and the rest of the state as Vancouver’s Mayor, ‘Teflon’ Tim ‘the Liar’ Leavitt stood with enviro-wacko’s, speaking against the proposed coal export terminals being planned that will ship coal to Asia, providing much needed jobs to our state and even benefit the citizens he claims to represent.

Previously covered here, the terminals would accept coal shipped by rail and barge to be loaded onto ships and sold to countries in Asia that are building coal powered facilities to economically benefit regions in their countries that have until now been without electricity.

These countries will buy coal, if not America’s low sulfur coal, other countries coal with much higher concentrates of sulfur. But, they will buy the coal they desire.

Isn’t a Job Also a “Basic Human Right?”

by lewwaters

Union StrangleholdIt seems everywhere we turn today, some Progressive twit is declaring what they want to be a “basic human right.” Abortion, birth control, medicine, healthcare, a home, public transportation, recreational drugs, food and any number of other wants are declared basic human rights that should just be given to them, free of charge with someone else footing the bill.

But it seems that when it comes to a job, that is not a basic human right and judging by the actions unfolding as the Michigan legislature passes Right to Work legislation, you should not be able to have a job or work for a paycheck unless you are held hostage to a union.

UPDATED: The Columbian: Busted Again On Their Pro-Democrat Bias

by lewwaters

Newspaper 2For some time we conservatives have complained about the Columbian newspaper’s bias in favor of Democrats, only to be met by Editor Lou Brancaccio’s reminders of they endorsed George W. Bush in 2004 and again endorsed Mitt Romney in the 2012 Presidential election.

Never mind that they refrain from publishing articles critical of Democrats nor do they publish article with glowing praise about Republicans, Brancaccio maintains they are even handed and do not favor either side, regardless of how many times we list their bias.

Once again we see a glaring example of their pro-Democrat bias and why I often label them the “unofficial daily newsletter for the Democrat Party.”

The Columbian Discovers, Democrats Won’t Vote Republican

by lewwaters

Boldt 3Now that the dust is settling from the recent election, with recounts finished and results set to be certified, we are to be treated to analysis of what went right and what wrong in some races. It’s interesting to read what different people think of how the election went and why votes turned out as they did.

Of particular interest is the race for County Commissioner between incumbent Marc Boldt and challenger, businessman David Madore since the Columbian expended a lot of ink to discourage voters from selecting Madore, having abandoned their previous disdain for Boldt, embracing him now that he slid left in many positions and came out in support of the CRC and light rail.

Someone, and I don’t know for sure who, decided that Boldt should maintain he is still a Republican even though he had abandoned nearly every Republican position since winning the Commissioner seat. Possibly it was recommended because his two previous elections were fairly decisive and handlers figured it would be again.
