‘Show of Shows’ To Close Out Veterans Court Endless Summer

by lewwaters

How many times have we heard, “the best is yet to come?” If like me, you’ve heard it time and again and wasn’t disappointed later when it was right in front of us.

As most of you know, there has been a series of concert/car shows being held to benefit our Clark County Veterans Court. All have been very well attended and offered some great entertainment and some really fantastic customs cars & hot rods. If you missed them, you can read how they went here and here.

Saturday, September 29, 2012 will see the final in these free shows to be held at Goldies BBQ, 15640 Northeast Fourth Plain Road, Vancouver, WA 98682 (360) 253-2836 from 2 PM to 10 PM. I should say Award Winning BBQ as Goldies has received numerous awards for their food.

Judge Darvin Zimmerman, founding presiding judge for the Veterans Court says of this ‘Show of Shows,’ “We’ve had great shows, but we’ve never had such a star studded solid line up. We will have more special surprises and performers than ever and it is all FREE except for the award winning BBQ.”

“It really is the ‘Show of Shows’ and will include a multi-million dollar car exhibit of over two dozen ‘Best of Show’ cars,” Judge Z. adds.

As in past shows, there will be live entertainment throughout the day with some of the best performers you will ever hear. I’ll cover the entertainers a little later as like in past shows, there will also be some of the greatest looking cars you can imagine on display.

Show Cars

Returning will be Phil Verry’s restored 1950 LeLand Double Decker Bus from London that he has converted into a restaurant, or as Phil says, a “Bustaurant.”

The rest will be only the best, all show winners to include a 1957 Corvette owned by Vern Toedli, owner of Todd’s Auto Body. Vern’s ‘Vette has been selected to be shown on the 2013 Snap-On Tools Calendar, a distinction that only goes to the best.

Selling for between $3,000 and $5,500 in 1957, the car was purchased without an engine and in near wrecked condition for $700 and with painstaking detail, fully restored to factory specs over the years to now be valued at $90,000.

Also featured will be a 1955 Red Jaguar XK140MC that frequently wins Best of Show where entered, most recently at the Concours d’ Elegance at officers row, beating out hundreds of other beautiful cars. The Jag too required years of painstaking work and thousands of man hours to be returned to its original elegance.

Making its debut in public will be the Clark County Sheriff’s recently acquired $400,000 Lenco Bearcat G3 purchased with seized drug money and will be useful in many ways protecting our Deputies and Law Enforcement in certain situations.

There will be many other excellent vehicles on display for you to see.

Star-Studded Line-Up

In addition to a couple dozen “Best of Show” quality cars, the day promises live entertainment all day long. Miss Oregon and Miss Teen Universe will also appear, so bring your camera and have your picture taken with these beautiful young ladies.

Uncle Sam & Betsy Ross will be appearing along with Heather Christina who won the Oregon/Washington X-Factor contest earlier this year.

Petya Grozeva will be returning with her beautiful voice along with Cynthia Hamm doing her Patsy Cline and displaying her National Championship talent with her fiddle.

Retired Army Colonel Dan Kern will perform along with Jesse Wade Holyk and world renowned guitarist Ernesto Quilban.

County sensation Ricky Lee Jackson will appear, singing his song, Freedom, Family and Faith as he did on Fox News’ Fox & Friends.

Also in a return performance will be Karen Overton & John Hughes of Portland’s Pleyback. Tony Morretti signed on to return stating how much fun he had at the last show singing his repertoire of Frank Sinatra songs.

Always a show stopper is Elvis impersonator Mark Stevenz, as shown at Couv.com

Along with Best of Show cars and a star studded line up of entertainment, Goldies BBQ will be offering the best BBQ in all of Clark County. Goldies has been awarded several awards for their Southern BBQ as well as their Chili.

The Best of Show cars and all day entertainment are free to the public, but Goldies mouth-watering BBQ is not. One taste and you’ll be hooked, though.

Judge Z has been a firebrand in establishing and supporting the Clark County Veterans Court just as he has in his work throughout his career.

The Veterans Court was established to divert the few returning Veterans who may have minor scrapes with the law and help them readjust through mentoring with other Veterans and assist them transition back to civilian life. Although few in number, these people deserve a break after what they have given us and Judge Zimmerman has established just that break.

With your help and generous donation, they will continue receiving that break. In return, you not only help those Veterans, but will be treated to world class entertainment, view some of the Best of Show cars available and have the chance to experience BBQ, “Where Texas Meets Louisiana” at Goldies BBQ.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 29, 2012, 2 PM to 10 PM and let’s close out Endless Summer together for our Veterans.
