Veterans Court Big Winner At Saturday Cruise-In

by lewwaters

If you happened to pass by Jett Burger Café in Camas, Saturday September 15, 2012 and wondered about so many really cool looking cars sitting outside, you did yourself a great disservice if you did not stop in.

Saturday saw another in the Endless Summer Cruise-Ins being held as fundraisers to benefit the Clark County Veterans Court. As in past Cruise-Ins, the day included very talented entertainment and some of the coolest cars imaginable.

The day was not only cars, even though they were a major part of the draw. Some very talented entertainment was on tap, beginning with 18 year-old Petya Grozeva singing our National Anthem, followed by many others. To see and hear this young lady perform is a treat all by itself.

Mark Stevenz was again on hand doing his award winning Elvis impersonation. A real treat for all was Mark bringing in a friend from upstate who is also an Elvis impersonator, pleasing the crowd with two Elvis’.

Next came Tony Morretti with a full rendition of Frank Sinatra favorites. A YouTube video embedded here does not even come close to doing justice to Tony’s voice and talent.

Another crowd pleaser was Karen Overton and her brother, Jon Hughes of Portland’s Pleyback, featuring songs from Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Patsy Cline and more.

Rounding out the entertainers was Country Music Sensation, Ricky Lee Jackson.

Also showing their support of our Clark County veterans Court were Portland radio host Lars Larson, Vancouver City Council Member and retired US Army Colonel, Larry Smith, Candidate for Clark County Commission David Madore, Clark County Commissioner Tom Mielke and Scott Weber, Clark County Clerk. Madore and Mielke are also Veterans.

The day wound down as 24 winners were chosen from the 100 or so vehicles displayed throughout. Categories were based upon year, in progress, motorcycles and Best of Show. Not all that surprising were seeing women car owners taking so many trophies home for their jewels. Car shows are not just for us guys any longer, as was seen today with so many displayed.

A small sampling of cars shown

Not to be missed was Phil Verry’s fully restored 1950 Leland English Double Decker Bush, converted into a “Bustaraunt,” hopefully soon to be operating in Oregon.

But overall, our Clark County Veterans Court was the big winner as Judge Darvin Zimmerman, founding presiding judge of the Veterans Court, established to benefit our returning Veterans who may have minor scrapes with the law to prevent their being “thrown to the wolves” of the legal system, organized and worked tirelessly to arrange these Cruise-Ins, entice car owners to attend, line up entertainers and collect sponsors, which there is no shortage of in Clark County.

A portion of the registration fee for the cars displayed went to the Veterans Court as did the proceeds from Veterans Packets sold with many valuable coupons from sponsors and door prizes offered from other sponsors.

Enough cannot be said of the great food on hand, cooked and sold by Jett Burger Café. Burgers with a hint of Hawaii, combo plates with pork & chicken and more were available, keeping many well fed.

September 29 will see another Cruise-In, to be held at Goldie’s Barbecue at 156th and Fourth Plain.

Not only will you have the best barbecue in Clark County, many repeat performers will return with their fantastic talents.

On top of that, the cars on hand are said to all be ‘Best Of Show’ cars, the very best available.

Mark your calendars and come on out to Goldie’s BBQ, located at 15640 NE 4th Plain, Vancouver, Wa. 98682.

Come out for great food, really show stopping cars, very talented entertainers and above all, to support our Veterans Court as they work to help those few deserving Veterans who have given so much to you in defense of your freedoms and liberties.

Winners all today, but our Veterans are the winners with your continuing support.

  1. I need to start writing stuff down. I knew there was something I was wanting to do yesterday. It was a perfect to get out the convertible GTO.
