During the campaign for nomination to succeed retiring Brian Baird, I noted that all of the GOP challengers made statements on their position concerning Illegal Immigration. All except Jaime Herrera, that is.
As noted in the original post, some time AFTER writing that post, her campaign listed a vague position on Illegal Immigration, her campaign having been goaded into stating a position. But, vague or not, it was still a stated position.
As we all know, Jaime, now going by her husbands name, Herrera-Beutler, won her climb up the political ladder and has been sworn in, assuming her seat in the House. In due time, she got her official web site up and running for all of us constituents to be able to follow her and know her positions.
Thursday, January 27 2011 I visited her web page and was quite impressed with whoever she had design it for her. They did a really nice job of it. So, I was some surprised, while perusing her page to open up the “ISSUES” section and see the following.
In case you miss it, in the long list of issues on the left, missing once again is her position on ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!
I am left to wonder, given her vagueness during the campaign and now dropping it as an issue once again, does she even take illegal immigration seriously? Does she not see how it is a problem, not only for Washington State, but America, affecting rising unemployment and a declining economy?
She made her climb up the political ladder and sits at the grown-ups table now, but is this how she intends to represent us?
Reading in the Seattle Times, “Illegal-immigrant numbers in state jump 35% in 3 years,” making us the state with “the seventh-highest rate of illegal immigrants in the country,” shows me this is an issue that must be addressed.
Does she not have a position on one of the most important problems facing our country today?
Or, is the hope of being reelected by supporters of illegal immigrants more important?
Please contact her office at the numbers below and have everyone you know call to keep the pressure on her. She said she supported these issues including HR 97 making English the Official Language of our America, in the recent Battle Ground Town Hall Meeting. Yet neither Jaime nor her staff locally or in DC have given an answer why she won’t Co-Sponsor what she said she supports!!!
