Leavitt’s State of the City, A Travesty

by lewwaters

Leavitt Dean 6Vancouver’s Mayor, Tim ‘the Liar’ Leavitt gave the annual State of the City address today, March 12, 2014 at Fort Vancouver High School, his alma mater.

We all know that such speeches are designed to be boastful and filled with platitudes and claims of how good things are under the official giving them. And we also know most spin the facts to make the giver appear better than they are.

But, Leavitt took the opportunity to show just what an immature asshole he really is.

Economist warns: Renewed CRC Promises Gridlock on I-205

by lewwaters

I-5 Bridge 02Joe Cortright is President and principal economist for Impresa, a Portland consulting firm specializing in regional economic analysis, innovation and industry clusters. Joe is also a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and senior policy advisor for CEOs for Cities, a national organization of urban leaders.

An Economist with impeccable credentials that when he releases a study, we are assured it is well researched, deeply considered and very relevant to the subject at hand. As an old commercial said, he is one that when he speaks, people listen. Or at least, they should.

Mr. Cortright has deeply researched and released studies critical of the Columbia River Crossing light rail project and has grabbed our attention for his efforts. And as we now know, the once thought dead project is being brought back up with allegedly new considerations, but realistically, just the same old, same old we have rejected.

Mayor Tim Leavitt’s Conflict over a Conflict of Interest

Who Speaks For Citizens in Vancouver?

by lewwaters

Challenger for City Council, Alishia Topper, wants you to believe she will be the “true voice for citizens” over incumbent Jeanne E. Stewart.

Ms. Stewart has consistently stood up for citizens over special interests in her 12 years on city council.

Where was Alishia Topper? Has she ever attended City Council meetings?

Mayor Leavitt and C-Tran Declare Jihad

by lewwaters

911 037We woke up to horror 12 years ago today. The worst terrorist attack in history had just occurred on the East Coast and we on the West Coast shook the sleep out of our eyes to view the horror in the media reports.

12 years later, we have changed leadership at many levels, sacrificed thousands of our own people fighting terror around the globe, but terror remains.

To a lesser degree, we have our own terror ongoing in Clark County. No, people are not being killed by suicide bombers, but it a form of terror as citizens are being ignored by an ever encroaching political ruling class to circumvent votes of the people and impose a costly project and its cost on them.

Leavitt Insanely Comes Out in Opposition to Voters and Taxpayers

by lewwaters

CRC Stake 1Sometimes it is difficult to tell if it is just ignorance or sheer arrogance that propels the Mayor of Vancouver, Washington, Tim ‘the Liar’ Leavitt.

It’s been known since he lied his way into the Mayor’s office, campaigning strongly opposing tolling the proposed CRC light rail bridge project, only to flip to supporting tolls shortly after winning that he is solidly in the pocket of special interests seeking to gain Billions off of the backs of the middle class in Clark County.

Now, with the project sitting in a zombie, undead status, special interests desperately trying to resurrect it after the Washington State Senate, heeding input from taxpayers, declined to approve a multi-Billion dollar tax package to include Washington’s portion of funding the CRC, Leavitt pulls what should be a stake through the heart of his effort to be reelected.

Tax Addicts: Worse Than Heroin and Meth Addicts

by lewwaters

Tax AddictJust last week the Lazy C treated us to a three-part series on the struggles of a couple addicted to drugs. Their jail time, their drug induced paranoia, in and out of treatment facilities, it was all spelled out in the series receiving both praise and condemnation from readers.

Greg Jayne, the new Editorial Page Editor lays it out in the column In Our View: Addiction Costs Us All as, “Yet while the fight against illicit drug use has been a source of debate for decades now, the human toll remains the most poignant aspect of the story.”

But, there is an addiction hurting citizens of Clark County Washington that is much worse than heroin or meth in my estimation, affecting every single struggling middle class taxpayer in the county and the city of Vancouver, frivolous spending by politicians.

It’s Alive, the Undead CRC

by lewwaters

Back from the Dead, like an old horror flick sequel, the monster we hoped was dead rises from the grave to once again taunt and torment taxpayers in Southwest Washington and Northern Oregon.

The Columbia River Crossing light rail project roars back to life as special downtown mafia interests quietly plotted against rejoicing taxpayers to give rebirth to the mega-project destined to bankrupt the middle class taxpayer in Clark County, Washington with ever increasing gasoline taxes, license fees, tolls and whatever other means they can dream up to force the struggling middle class to accept the burden of extending Portland’s ill-fated light rail a short distance cross state lines into our community.

Election 2013: Vancouver City Council Pos. 1

by lewwaters

Vote 1Continuing in my assessment of Vancouver, Washington City Council candidates in the 2013 election, the final race is Position 1, currently held by Jack Burkman who is being challenged by Otto M. Guardado, Micheline Doan and Brian Joseph Smith.

For some reason unknown to me, the Position 1 race has not risen to the level of attention that has been directed at the other two seats being challenged, but is just as important on the 7-member city council.

Again, in no particular order of preference;

Election 2013: Vancouver City Council Position 2

by lewwaters

Vote 1Continuing in an assessment of candidates vying for Vancouver, Washington City Council, Position 2 now merits a look.

Position 2 is currently held by Jeanne E. Stewart, undoubtedly the single most centrist person sitting on the council. She is being challenged by 2 political novices, Alisha Topper and Ty Stober, both relatively unknown.

Admittedly, neither of the candidates has reached out to me as did others I have blogged about, but I have talked with Ms. Stewart in the past. My views of her challengers are based upon their web sites and news articles.

Again, in no order of preference,

Light Rail Can’t Fix Stupid

by lewwaters

Light Rail HellAmidst audible groans and moans, the Columbia River Crossing light rail project died as the Senate Coalition majority gaveled the end of the second special session in Olympia, having defeated a last minute effort by Democrats to force the $10 Billion Transportation Bill to a vote.

Years of scheming, planning, fearmongering and wasting over $170 Million went up in smoke as proponents saw the bill that would have funded the CRC light rail project and other mega-projects around the state dissolve, due primarily to proponents steadfast refusal to listen to voters and taxpayers who have been rejecting Portland, Oregon’s light rail forced upon them since 1995.

The anger coming from elected officials in support was immediate and continues, many vowing to keep pushing the project in one manner or another, others just lashing out in angry outbursts directed at Washington State Senate Republicans who actually listened to and abided by the voices of those who elected them.

CRC & $10 Billion Trans Package Taken Off Life-Support

by lewwaters

I-5 Bridge 02The second special session ended shortly after 6 PM, June 29, 2013.

All of the whining, crying and gnashing of teeth won’t help now, only divine intervention will breathe any life into the CRC and Inslee’s massive $10 Billion Transportation package to heaped on the backs of struggling middle class voters across the state with a 10.5¢ gas tax increase and other fee increases to fund it.

The Senate Coalition majority held fast and remained unified today as efforts get some to change their minds failed.

An AP report, Wash. Senate leaders decline $10B transpo plan indicated the final nail in the coffin late this afternoon.

Mayor Leavitt: Conflicts of Interest or Incredible Coincidence?

by lewwaters

Leavitt Dean 8It has been well documented how Tim Leavitt lied his way into winning the 2009 election for Mayor of Vancouver by running on a “No Tolls” ticket and swiftly flip flopping before even being sworn into office.

His lies and flip flops were recorded in print and captured on video for all to see.

In spite of his own grandiose claims of how effective he has been these past 4 years as Mayor, the city of Vancouver remains mired in deep economic troubles, having once closed a much needed fire station, laid off firefighters only to beg for a federal grant to reopen and retrain new firefighters, all while monies were made available to go into debt to purchase the new Columbian Building for a new city hall and hundreds of thousands of dollars put forth to build a new waterfront park in hopes that future development would come around that park.

Federal Grand Jury Indicts Mayor Leavitt

by lewwaters

College 4A spoof submitted by Prof. Robert Dean.

GMenIn a stunning announcement that sent shockwaves through the organized crime world and Vancouver politics, FBI and Justice Department Attorneys from the District of Oregon Portland Division today unveiled a five-count indictment against the Mayor of Vancouver, Timothy D. Leavitt, and his private employer, Government Contracts R Us, Inc. The indictment from the secret grand jury culminates a 4-year investigation dubbed Operation Low Bridge by the several federal and state agencies involved.

The indictment alleges improper lobbying of Congress by government contractors, failure to declare lobbying activities by employees, failure to register as a lobbyist, abuse of office, and mail fraud. All such activities are precluded or restricted for recipients of federal money, including government issued contracts, under Title 31 of US Code Section 1352. Criminal and civil penalties and remedies may be pursued in fines plus jail time.
