Hey Lefty, Your Facade Is Slipping

by lewwaters

donkey-eyesReminiscent of an editorial after Barack Obama won his chance to dismantle American freedoms in 2008, now comes Lazy C editor, ‘Lefty’ Lou Brancaccio with yet another smokescreen call of “come together.”

Now, as then, it is nothing more than a partisan call to isolate those he dislikes, conservative Republicans and fall into step with his preferred socialistic and beloved Democrats as we see the call is always “come together” under Democrats with him.

The editorial, Press Talk: It’s time to move forward is nothing more than another thinly veiled attack against conservative Republicans, focusing on the same three, Benton, Mielke & Madore that we have seen every week for months now.

Lisa Ross Campaign Kick-Off Pep Rally

by lewwaters

Lisa Phifer Ross held her campaign kick-off pep rally earlier this evening at the Academy in Vancouver. I estimate between 35 to 40 people attended wishing her well.

Lisa billed it as a Pep Rally complete with miniature pom poms, drummer and some good old Crimson Tide rah rah rah.

Lisa attended the University of Alabama, so it is fitting.

CRC Dead? Or Just In A Coma, Again?

by lewwaters

I-5 Bridge 02I can’t say it is unexpected, given strong citizen opposition and poor support in the Oregon legislature, but news is out that Oregon Governor Kitzhaber’s Sunday, March 9 deadline for funding an “Oregon Only” CRC plan to ram their financially failing light rail onto Clark County will see the demise of the project, again.

We heard this before, though. Just last year the Washington Senate failed to bring a funding measure to the floor, effectively ending Washington State’s involvement in the boondoggle.

But special interests hell bent on forcing light rail across the Columbia River, thereby enhancing their bank accounts, revived the project under an ill-advised “Oregon Only” plan, where the state of Oregon appeared to take on construction by themselves and funding to be placed on the backs of Clark County commuters with expensive tolling.

Jim Moeller Discusses “Polarization”

by lewwaters

Once again, Jim Moeller’s spoken words are at odds with his written words.

I can’t think of a more polarizing figure in the legislature than Jim Moeller (D. 49)

Makes Sense?

by lewwaters

Words spoken by Washington State Representative Sharon Wylie (D. 49) during a February 19, 2014 Tele-Town Hall held by her and fellow Democrats, Representative Jim Moeller and State Senator Annette Cleveland

Does she mean that they think the rest of things they do makes no sense?

Carolyn Crain Campaign Kickoff Highlights

by lewwaters

Excerpts from Carolyn Crain’s campaign kickoff speech, January 23, 2014. Carolyn, a Republican is running to unseat Democrat Jim Moeller in the 49th legislative district.

Also announcing an intent to run against Moeller is Lisa Phifer Ross. This blog will do its best to give both candidates a fair viewing when her material comes available, my hopes being Jim Moeller voted out.

Moeller’s Response to Climate Debate Challenge

by lewwaters

As most know, Vancouver City Council member Bill Turlay, a retired US Navy aircraft pilot, challenged Washington State Rep. Jim Moeller (D 49) to an open debate on the claims of man-made global warming, climate change when it is shown the earth has been cooling instead of warming up. Last evening Mr. Turlay told of the sort of response he received from Moeller,

I wonder what his next excuse will be to not accept the challenge, even though he claims he and his fellow Democrats “have science… and lots of it” to support their view?

Duh, Jim Moeller

by lewwaters

I have often thought Jim Moeller (D 49) might not be the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but this comment he left on his facebook page, January 23, 2014 is a mind boggler.

Rep. Moeller Challenged to Public Climate Debate

by lewwaters
Jim Moeller

Jim Moeller

Democrat 49th legislative district Representative Jim Moeller is well known for his arrogance and “know it all” attitude and loves to portray himself and his fellow Democrats as the only people in the state who care about anything.

Such is the case back on January 8, 2014 when he commented to a Lazy C article, “Republicans on climate panel want more time.”

Moeller said, “Yes regretfully, only the Democrats seem to believe in doing something about climate change. It’s ‘nice’ to try and include the Republicans in the discussion about what to do but they have to look out for those who make money on pollution. The Democrats only have science – and lots of it.”

How Successful was the Washington State Senate Majority Coalition?

by lewwaters

We all saw the bipartisan Senate Coalition Majority brought about last year and the predictions of it failing. Yet, it remains and appears like it will for some time.

At a recent function, the question was put forth on whether or not it was successful. Two opposing views were given, one by Republican Senator Don Benton, who played a large role in getting it off the ground and the other by far leftist Democrat Representative Jim Moeller.

Of Mud Bogs and Politics

by lewwaters

MudslingingMud bogging can be a lot of fun, both as a participant and as a spectator, watching as trucks struggle to make it through deep pits of mud and slinging mud in all directions. The competition is fierce, but it is all in fun and at the end of the day, you see a lot smiles on mud caked faces.

But the state of mudslinging in our political campaigns has reached a level that now prevents us from seeing more highly qualified people run for public office.

And by that I do not mean that relevant matters pertaining to a candidate should not be brought out, but specious claims, false linking, attacking supporters or family members and other such underhanded tactics, to “win at any cost” has degraded our politics to a state that not only do we have a problem enlisting qualified candidates, many people no longer even wish to vote.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road!

The Honorable Jim Moeller
State Representative, District 49
PO Box 40600
Olympia, WA 98504-0600 Cite As:
AGO 2013 No. 1

Dear Representative Moeller:

By letter previously acknowledged, you have requested our opinion on a question I have paraphrased as follows:
Must a transit agency that elects to establish high capacity transportation service under RCW 81.104 obtain voter approval for its high capacity transportation system plan and financing plan even if the transit agency does not propose to use the dedicated funding sources provided for in RCW 81.104?

Great News, Dwight Pelz To Step Down

Just coming out from the Seattle PI, bombastic Chair of the Washington State Democrat Party, Dwight Pelz, calling it quits.

Good riddance.

Now, for Jim ‘sue your constituents to invalidate their votes’ Moeller to follow.

C-Tran Proposes Cutting Bus Service to Fund Light Rail

by lewwaters

First, a little trip down memory lane for you;

Yes, that was our former County Commissioner, Marc Boldt selling you on voting to approve a sales tax increase in the 2011 election in order for C-Tran to keep buses running. Or so we were to believe.

Voters approved that sales tax increase, fearing Granny would be left standing out in the cold on some street corner.

Cleveland’s Talking Points Out Of Touch With Constituents

by lewwaters

Cleveland 3There is an old saying by Mark Twain that goes, “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.”

The quote can fit no one better than 49th Legislative District Senator Annette Cleveland who tries to portray herself as learned and relevant, even though she has yet to complete a single year in office.

Face it, she didn’t win the election because of any great intellect or connection with voters, but solely because she registered as a Democrat running in the heavily Democrat 49th district. A district so out of touch with itself that it repeatedly reelects Jim Moeller, knowing he sued them to invalidate their votes so he can raise their taxes easier.

Even the Lazy C, in endorsing her last year admitted the Republican candidate, Eileen Qutub, was the more experienced and all around better candidate, but that Cleveland was running in a Democrat district so they went with her.

Who Mitigates on Behalf of Taxpayers?

by lewwaters

Light Rail HellEven though once declared dead by both Governors of Washington and Oregon, the zombie-like specter of the Columbia River Crossing light rail project continues to have new life pumped into it by those very Governors along with deep pocketed special interests hoping to reap millions on the backs of a struggling middle class taxpayer.

And one of those special interests is our own local newspaper of record, the Lazy C who has blindly supported the project since its inception and helped cover up many of the shortcomings as well as ignored concerns expressed by citizens.

We saw this as it became known the proposed replacement bridge to cross the Columbia River was to create a choke point for river commerce by an insufficient height, providing only 98 feet initially, upped to 116 feet later, still far lower than the current 178 feet when the lift spans are raised.

Instead of seeing the folly, considering how much commerce travels under the bridge, officials merely decide to ‘mitigate’ with the three manufacturers likely to be affected the most, Oregon Iron Works, Greenberry and Thompson Metal Fab.

Tax Addicts: Worse Than Heroin and Meth Addicts

by lewwaters

Tax AddictJust last week the Lazy C treated us to a three-part series on the struggles of a couple addicted to drugs. Their jail time, their drug induced paranoia, in and out of treatment facilities, it was all spelled out in the series receiving both praise and condemnation from readers.

Greg Jayne, the new Editorial Page Editor lays it out in the column In Our View: Addiction Costs Us All as, “Yet while the fight against illicit drug use has been a source of debate for decades now, the human toll remains the most poignant aspect of the story.”

But, there is an addiction hurting citizens of Clark County Washington that is much worse than heroin or meth in my estimation, affecting every single struggling middle class taxpayer in the county and the city of Vancouver, frivolous spending by politicians.

It’s Alive, the Undead CRC

by lewwaters

Back from the Dead, like an old horror flick sequel, the monster we hoped was dead rises from the grave to once again taunt and torment taxpayers in Southwest Washington and Northern Oregon.

The Columbia River Crossing light rail project roars back to life as special downtown mafia interests quietly plotted against rejoicing taxpayers to give rebirth to the mega-project destined to bankrupt the middle class taxpayer in Clark County, Washington with ever increasing gasoline taxes, license fees, tolls and whatever other means they can dream up to force the struggling middle class to accept the burden of extending Portland’s ill-fated light rail a short distance cross state lines into our community.
