What Changed in Clark County?

by lewwaters

Madore 003I was recently asked by a Home Rule Charter supporter if I would list the difference between past efforts at a Home Rule Charter and the latest effort.

Perhaps I should have put the question back on him as it appears it is those that now support it are who have made a 180° Turn Around.

In the 2002 effort, Democrats fought against any Home Rule Charter with everything they had. Statements against from the 2002 Voters Pamphlet by Democrats below;

Do You Want a ‘Functional’ County Commission?

by lewwaters

That may sound like an odd question to ask, given the angst over the Clark County Board of Commissioners since the majority switched in 2012 to a more conservative one and that Democrats have a major effort underway now to completely revamp county government in hopes of regaining their power, but it is an question that all should be considering.

As we know, Commissioner Steve Stuart decided to leave the County Commission since he no longer pulled the strings at County and Ed Barnes was named to complete his term, which ends this year.

Democrats were livid that Barnes was named, even though they nominated him, as their real effort was to propose two people they did not want in order to entice the two remaining Commissioners to name former Commissioner, Craig Pridemore to complete the term and to be able campaign as an incumbent this year.

Motive Matters

by lewwaters

“Proposed changes in county charter could be awful.” Clark County Democrat Party, May 2011

“exploring the idea of a home rule charter would be a wild goose chase, seeking to solve problems that are nonexistent.” Columbian newspaper editorial, June 3, 2013

As seen above, Democrats especially and even the Lazy C have both adamantly opposed any change to how county government functions over the years. Both led campaigns that saw efforts rejected by voters in 1982, 1997, and 2002.

Another effort received little support in 2011, leading the Lazy C to proclaim in a Cheers & Jeers column,

Cheers: To county commissioners for putting an end to the home rule charter process this year. Inspecting methods of government is always a good idea, but there was no demonstrated need to elect a slate of freeholders to, in essence, draft a county charter that would replace the current system.”

Who in the Hell is Sean Emerson to Try to Dictate What is Posted on This Blog?

by lewwaters

Tinker Never SleepsLiberty: the state or condition of people who are able to act and speak freely; the power to do or choose what you want to; a political right.

As you all know, this blog and its author have been under anonymous assault for a few months now from operatives of the Clark County R3publican Party. The party posting the endless series of assault labeled himself “I. Tinker,” and said of the choice of anonymity,

“When we first started LWW, there was discussion of whether we should be up front with who we are or whether we should stay anonymous. It was a difficult decision, but we went the way we did because Lew’s prime weapon in his arsenal is to identify his critics, and then silence or marginalize them with heated ad hominem attacks. Basically he uses his position as The Clark County Conservative to just bury his detractors in mud. So we made a tactical decision to not give him the target on which to use his favorite – and it turns out his only – weapon.”

Withdrawing the Acceptance of an Apology

by lewwaters

Anybody that has paid any attention realizes by now that I have soured quite a bit on the Clark County Republican Party under the Ron Paul Brown Shirt Republican Liberty Caucus due to the smears directed at me personally over my exposing Christian Berrigan’s sneaky, underhanded effort to stack PCO slots.

Those smears were done from the shadows by people unknown, but connected to the CCGOP and refuse to come out in the open, leaving me with no one connected to the party that I can trust.

Towards the top of that list of those I can no longer trust is County Commissioner David Madore, in large part for hearing of his funding of these cowardly people and that he was caught undermining the efforts of this blog, explained at Prosper and Thrive?

But, that wasn’t the first time Madore took something from me to put out as his.

Prosper and Thrive?

Never Push

As you all know, I have been subjected to a massive smear campaign of late because of exposing some underhanded tactics by the Clark County Republican Party. It backfired on them as a surprising number of people, young and old, Democrat and Republican even an Independent or two sent me messages of support, agreeing that what I exposed needed to be exposed.

It is widely believed that this current group of what I can only describe as “hotheads” was funded in their takeover of the CCGOP by current County Commissioner, David Madore, also owner of US Digital. Whether he has any direct involvement in this smear campaign, I really do not know, but he told me he does not and added he has no idea who they are.

Stewart to Run For Clark County Commissioner

by lewwaters
Jeanne E. Stewart

Jeanne E. Stewart

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I report former Vancouver City Council Member, Jeanne E. Stewart has announced her intent to make a bid for the seat abandoned by Steve Stuart on the Clark County Board of Commissioners. She will be filing as a Republican.

Ms. Stewart, who was elected three times to the Vancouver City Council as a non-partisan candidate and who was the most centrist of all City Council members during her twelve years has contacted Clark County Republican Party Chair Kenny Smith informing him, “My past runs for political office have always been for nonpartisan positions. This County Commissioners race is a partisan race and candidates must select a party designation. This is a new step for me, as I have not been strongly aligned with any particular party, in the past. After careful soul searching, I have come to the conclusion that my most important principles and philosophies are more closely aligned with those of the Republican Party.”

Stewart has always shunned partisan labels, opting instead to be a true representative of the people, carefully weighing matters that come before her to ascertain potential benefits and the public’s views, at times ruffling feathers of other council members catering to special interests.

How Long Has the Lazy C Ignored Illegal Lot Sales by the County?

by lewwaters

Dems, BlindersQuite a shocking revelation was posted on County Commissioner David Madore’s facebook page recently. It seems that the county has been auctioning off property to unsuspecting citizens that they cannot do anything with and end up stuck with.

For all of the excessive verbiage printed by the Lazy C against the so called “M&M Boys,” Commissioners Madore and Mielke now comprising the Republican majority of the 3-person commission, I find not one mention of this practice that apparently has been ongoing for several years in Clark County.

Where we are treated to frequent denunciations of the majority voters chose in the 2012 election as well as ridicule whenever Lefty Lou Brancaccio feels like it, they remain mum on the ongoing efforts by the majority to make much needed corrections where citizens have been getting hurt for so long.

Little Slips Can Tell a Lot

by lewwaters

C-TranSomething unscrupulous media has been known to do is try to slip something past readers, citizens of their communities, in an effort to push forward an agenda that a majority in the community might oppose. Other times it might be a small sliver of truth in an agenda driven article, buried deep in the article with hopes that busy people will just read a biased headline and maybe skim the first part of the article.

Some claim they are not biased because there is that hint of truth in an otherwise heavily biased article, all too often missed or overlooked by readers.

And other times a quote is included in what might otherwise be considered an unrelated article that actually sheds light on another matter citizens of a community should be made aware of.

Lou Brancaccio Should Be Cleaning Toilets

by lewwaters

This was a bitter election campaign… [I]t felt like there was an opportunity to come together, to extend a hand rather than point a finger. So is there an opportunity now to stop the shouting and the name-calling, end the fist-pumping? I think so. But the window for this kind of thing is always open for only a short time. We’ll all need to take advantage of it quickly. The Columbian would love to cover a coming together.” – Lou Brancaccio, November 8, 2008

Lou Brancaccio CountYes, Lou was elated at the Democrats victory back in 2008 as were all Democrats it seemed. To watch them once they seized total control of the country, “America came together” as was expressed on a hand written sign set up outside of the Democrats Victory Party at the Vancouver Hilton that night.

Fast forward to 2013 and even though the national election was somehow in their favor, by hook or crook as the saying goes, locally Lou’s efforts to demean Republican candidates and incumbents to sway the election towards his beloved Democrats had failed. Overwhelmingly, voters throughout the county voted to elect Republicans in all but a couple races.

The Stench of the Columbian

by lewwaters

This post could alternately be titled, “If the Lazy C Ran an Objective Article, Are There Enough Readers Left to Notice?”

Columbian, No paper trailThe Lazy C, aka the Columbian that is allegedly a newspaper just continues to prove time and again that they are nothing more than an unofficial daily newsletter for the Democrat Party. Even their worthiness to use the pages a bird cage liner are questionable, considering what would be dropping on the paper would be considered more useful.

As was noted back in early August in the post “Exposé? Or Just More Hate?” and as has also been noted on Clark County Politics blog, when they hate you, they really hate you.

And I can’t think of three more people they have had nothing but abject hatred for over the years as they do Sen. Don Benton (R. 17th) as well as Clark County Commissioners Tom Mielke and David Madore.

Sly Ol’ Fox, Commissioner Mielke. Touche’

by lewwaters

Mielke Thumb UpI love seeing older people put one over on younger people from time to time, especially when the younger one doesn’t seem to realize they’ve just been had. Reading in the Lazy C’s All Politics is Local blog site that seems to be just what Clark County Commissioner Tom Mielke did at a recent Commissioner meeting.

While writer Eric Hidle focuses on Commissioners getting through a meeting without controversy, for once, he seems to have missed the significance of the not so subtle ‘in your face’ gesture offered by Commissioner Mielke.

Or, if he didn’t miss it, he is trying to ignore it.

Exposé? Or Just More Hate? Updated

by lewwaters
Senator Don Benton

Senator Don Benton

It’s a downright shame that we do not have a trustworthy or objective source of news when it comes to political matters in Southwest Washington. Instead, we have the Lazy C, more of an unofficial daily newsletter for the Democrat Party that rarely discovers scandal on the left, but gleefully reports the slightest bit of salacious claims against conservatives.

One name that frequently appears in the pages of the Lazy C connected to just about any bit of gossip that can be made to appear a scandal is 17th Legislative District Senator Don Benton, recently appointed by the County Commission to also head the County Department of the Environment.

In spite of winning his seat in the Senate 5 times in a row, a feat accomplished by few in the face of continual assault by the local media over nearly 20 years, you would be hard pressed to find much ever appearing in the pages of the Lazy C that could be considered favorable. That voters five times now have chosen Sen. Benton over the Lazy C’s more favored Democrat challenger is apparently of no concern to them down there, they only know that they want him gone and will not cease their hateful commentary until he is.

Acerbic Editor, John Laird, Pens Final Editorial

by lewwaters

Laird GargamelJohn Laird, the vitriolic, extreme left-wing liberal hatemonger editorial page editor at the Lazy C posts his final column today, sure to please decent citizens of Southwest Washington, no longer to be subjected to his heavily biased efforts at denigrating and demeaning any and everybody that refuses to follow his delusional rants lock-step.

We at Clark Conservative (me) present John Laird with this parting image from all of us “Hounds of Whinerville,” “Ankle Biters,” “Cockroaches,” “Banana (build absolutely nothing anywhere near anything)” and “Political Piranhas” with the audacity to think for ourselves and not fall prey to the “Texas Rejects” efforts to verbally strong arm us into rolling over and allow ourselves to be steamrolled by every piece of liberal insanity he promoted.

Mayor Leavitt: Conflicts of Interest or Incredible Coincidence?

by lewwaters

Leavitt Dean 8It has been well documented how Tim Leavitt lied his way into winning the 2009 election for Mayor of Vancouver by running on a “No Tolls” ticket and swiftly flip flopping before even being sworn into office.

His lies and flip flops were recorded in print and captured on video for all to see.

In spite of his own grandiose claims of how effective he has been these past 4 years as Mayor, the city of Vancouver remains mired in deep economic troubles, having once closed a much needed fire station, laid off firefighters only to beg for a federal grant to reopen and retrain new firefighters, all while monies were made available to go into debt to purchase the new Columbian Building for a new city hall and hundreds of thousands of dollars put forth to build a new waterfront park in hopes that future development would come around that park.

Home Foreclosures Up, County Makes Bold Move to Spur Jobs

by lewwaters

Depression 2As Democrats still smarting from the overwhelming defeat of Clark County Commissioner Marc Boldt last year bellyache at bold moves made by the conservative majority on the Commission to spur some job growth, the Lazy C runs an article informing us that home foreclosures in our County have increased 65%.

Obviously, what was tried by the former Democrat majority over the last four years was not working as more and more we see middle class families losing their homes as they cannot afford to make their mortgage payments.

The Lazy C has been trying to paint a rosy picture of our local economy for some time, telling us home values are increasing, new home building is increasing, foreclosures were down and how the County is on the mend.

Make the Freeholders Partisan

by lewwaters

repub-demNow that a Home Rule Charter is popular with the left, after years of their opposing the same rule, there is an effort to make the Freeholders “non-partisan,” not declaring any Political Party.

Bad idea in my opinion.

County Commissioner Tom Mielke said it best before when he said the positions should be Partisan with, “it gives voters an idea regarding governing philosophy.”

I know it is becoming commonplace to claim “non-partisan” with our Top Two Primary system, but let’s face it, anybody elected brings with them a “Partisan” viewpoint. From City Council members to Freeholders, whoever holds the seat will govern from a “Partisan” viewpoint.

We also know that Democrats now favor Home Rule due solely to the election of Commissioner David Madore and the reelection of Commissioner Tom Mielke, giving the County Commission a true Conservative Republican majority.

When You have No Argument, Cry Victim

by lewwaters

Ron Paul CrybabyOne thing anybody with half an ounce of sense recognizes, it is the liberals propensity to always cry victim. They must be the eternal victim, even if they win and especially if they lose an election or whenever something doesn’t go their way.

We see the same attitude with the Lazy C Editor, Lou Brancaccio as his efforts to whip a large scale lynch mob mentality in the county over the County Commissioners hiring of Sen. Don Benton to head the County Department of Environmental Services basically falls flat on its face.

Brancaccio treats us to the Lazy C’s 32nd rant over the hiring by trying to proclaim nobody supports the decision of Commissioners Mielke & Madore because no one in elected office answered his call to come forward and defend the hiring.

To Brancaccio that translates to no support while ignoring that more and more elected officials are shying away from speaking with the mouthpiece on newsprint.
