Vancouver’s ‘Teflon Tim’

by lewwaters

Teflon, the coating we have known for many years now in cookware and renowned for its non-stick capability. Whatever is being cooked just slides off easy as can be leaving little if any trace behind.

In politics the term is also widely known and has been used to describe several politicians of all parties that scandals just slide off of, not sticking, not being held accountable. President Reagan, Tony Blair, B.J. Clinton, Vladimir Putin, Ma Ying-jeou and Angela Merkel for just a few of the more well-known examples.

We also cannot forget well known Crime Boss, John Gotti was referred to as the “Teflon Don” for his many scrapes with the law that he slid through until finally convicted of murder in 1992.

The term “Teflon” has been used numerous times to those “slippery” characters that seem to just do whatever they wish with total impunity, either from the law or scrutiny by the media or fellow public servants. But who would have ever thought that our small community, Vancouver, Washington would find itself being able to apply it to one of our own public officials, the mayor Tim Leavitt.

C-Tran’s Proposition 1 Sales Tax Initiative – The Numbers Tell the Story

by lewwaters

Submitted by Tiffany Couch

Are you confused by the conflicting statements related to C-Tran’s Proposition 1 initiative? Some have said that the initiative will give the Agency “twice as much money as they need!” Others have said, “the sales tax is not enough!”

So what are the facts?

In my business, the numbers tell the story. And thankfully, C-Tran has reported numbers which tell voters how the agency intends to use your sales tax funds.

Just a year ago, C-Tran came to the voters asking for a .2% increase in sales tax, claiming the funds were necessary for the Agency to maintain current levels of bus service. The initiative was passed, providing C-Tran with an investment of $10 million annually from local taxpayers.

Denny Heck, That’s a Load of ‘Cavallo Sterco’

by lewwaters

Yeah right, Denny. When was the last time any Democrat actually tried to reach middle ground?

Remember Jim Kastama, Rodney Tom & Tim Sheldon in Washington State this year siding with Republicans for a true bipartisan budget attempt?

Remember this ad from 2008?

The 3 AM call did come and neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton picked up the phone.

Union Rage or Experience? Our Choice

by lewwaters

Washington’s 49th Legislative District is fairly well known as a stronghold for liberal Democrats on par with the Puget Sound. Democrats in the 49th continue to be elected time and again, in spite of it also having some of the highest taxes, highest unemployment rate and lags behind the rest of the state.

With the announcement from State Senator Craig Pridemore that he was not going to seek reelection, Democrats have enlisted and promote Annette Cleveland to run for that open seat. But, who is Annette Cleveland? What does she have to offer us? What political experience does she bring to the campaign?

In answer to the last two questions, very little other than her claims of assisting the Vancouver Chamber, C-TRAN and supporting far left Democrat Patty Murray at WSU.

With a résumé that thin, we have very little to go on other than what we hear her say in her campaign speeches, such as her description of what formed her “Foundational Beliefs” from her 2012 Clark County Democrat convention speech

Stephanie Rice, Allow Me To Introduce You To Google

by lewwaters

Just about everybody is at least somewhat familiar with the internet today and the availability of ‘search engines,’ Google being amongst the most popular. Regardless of what is used, the internet provides us with a resource of information unlike ever before in our history.

That is why I am very surprised to see the Columbian, primarily Stephanie Rice being so unfamiliar with the prospects of searching for information before just blindly posting a candidates claim of “false” claims from his opponent.

We see the post on the Columbians All politics is local of Tanner calls out Mielke for false statements where yet again, Rice is quick to assail County Commissioner Tom Mielke and latch onto challenger Joe Tanner’s claims of statements made in a political ad by Mielke are “false.”

Had Rice bothered to check Google she would have seen they are not false at all and at worst, may have a wrong word.

Tim Probst, Lies and Deception Is Not What Washington State Needs

by lewwaters

Tim Probst and Sen. Don Benton

There is little doubt how the Washington State Democrats have pinned all hopes on former 17th Legislative District Representative Tim Probst to steal the State Senate seat held by Republican State Senator Don Benton for the past 16 years in order to retain the destructive majority that has led our state into such economic gloom we still see.

Clark County, where a large portion of the 17th district exists remain in its 4th straight year of double digit unemployment while these same deceiving Democrats continue to push for higher taxes and enabling more people to rely on welfare & food stamps.

We have focused on false and misleading claims by Tim Probst and PACs pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into attack ads designed to make the voters believe Don Benton is the worst person ever born, while trying to make Tim Probst appear like a sweet little angel.

He isn’t. In fact, he is far from it. Don’t let the boyish face and smirk fool you.

Politichicks Exposes Liberal Racism Against Black Conservatives

by lewwaters

For all of the “tolerance” and “Equal Rights” we continue to hear from Liberals, once again we see that to a Liberal, Blacks in America are expected to remain locked down on their plantation, denied their right to freely think or believe as they see fit.

H/T Politichicks TV

Kira Davis exposes the dark underbelly of the left in that out of a group of conservatives who appeared at the MSNBC studio during the DNC Convention, she, the ONLY Black person in group of conservatives, is ousted and “banned for life” because she dared exercise free thought and will, expressing her preference for our next president.

This is a pattern well known among Black Conservatives who are frequently silenced by the leftists within the lamestream media.

UPDATED: Qutub Harasser Pleads Guilty to Misdemeanor Harassment

by lewwaters

Word has reached Clark County Conservative that Gary Owen, who was arrested in August on suspicion of two counts of malicious harassment, a Class C felony, has plea bargained his offense down to misdemeanor harassment.

Owen was arrested and taken into custody after the Clark County Sherriff’s Office traced two vile, threatening emails sent to GOP State Senate candidate, Eileen Qutub to him.

He had initially pleaded not guilty.

An email received from Mrs. Qutub’s campaign said in part,

“Gary Owen has been charged for the death threats against Eileen Qutub. He was arrested on two Class C felonies of Malicious Harassment. He first pleaded not guilty and has now pleaded guilty to a single count of misdemeanor harassment. Eileen Qutub will be given an opportunity to speak as the victim and she intends to do so.”

Legendary Horse Whisperer Monty Roberts Helping Veterans

by lewwaters

There’s a condition in combat. Most people know about it. It’s when a fighting person’s nervous system has been stressed to its absolute peak and maximum. In the First World War, that condition was called shell shock. Then a whole generation went by and the Second World War came along and very same combat condition was called battle fatigue. Then we had the war in Korea, 1950. Madison Avenue was riding high by that time, and the very same combat condition was called operational exhaustion. Then of course, came the war in Viet Nam…, the very same condition was called post-traumatic stress disorder. I’ll bet you if we’d of still been calling it shell shock, some of those Viet Nam veterans might have gotten the attention they needed at the time.” George Carlin – 1990 “Euphemisms”

Monty Roberts

George Carlin was well known for his biting humor and as in the words above, often injected social awareness. While I can’t say his words would have changed anything, he did show that society was finally coming to grips with the fact that they owed Veterans something, especially those suffering from PTSD and experiencing problems readjusting back into a peaceful civilian life.

Unlike when those of my generation and before returned from our wars, programs and treatments to help those Veterans are becoming more and more available. Knowing that when dealing with something like PTSD there is no such thing as a ‘one size fits all,’ we are seeing several different approaches, all showing results to help the Veteran overcome their wartime trauma.

Bush’s Policies Increase Oil Production, Obama Gets Credit

by lewwaters

It should come as no surprise to any of us that Barack Obama’s chances of being reelected look very slim. Or that our lamestream media will now do anything they can think of to build support to get him reelected, claiming some of the most fantastic lies they can muster.

A prime example of how the Obama Campaign is self-promoting lies is seen in the latest television ad, ‘Challenges,’ narrated by actor Morgan Freeman. It’s disappointing to see a man of Freeman’s caliber lending his voice to such a fabricated claim.

Perhaps he didn’t hear about the murder of our Ambassador and 3 other Americans in the Benghazi Consulate recently, or the high unemployment still seen in Detroit, Michigan or that GM’s bailout leaves taxpayers facing a $35 Billion loss while two thirds of the jobs promised seem to be overseas more than in Detroit.

He is correct that “more needs done,” especially considering VP Biden admitted the middle class has been buried these last 4 years and even in the last debate Obama admitted in the final debate, “we’ve neglected, for example, developing our own economy, our own energy sectors, our own education system. And it’s very hard for us to project leadership around the world when we’re not doing what we need to do…”

It appears that “going forward” with Obama will lead us right over the edge of a cliff of disaster that will finish off our country.

$8 Tolls On the Interstate Bridge

by lewwaters

It was surprising to see so many comments deny that tolls to cross the I-5 Bridge have been estimated to be as high as $8 under the Columbian article Toll signs attract state’s attention, ire. Surprising because that is exactly what we were told back in 2009 by one of today’s biggest CRC supporters.

I make no comment concerning the use of signs the articles addresses, nor does this blog approve of their use since in 2010, the use of very similar campaign signs was condemned by this blog. The responsible party has claimed ownership of them as he should.

Mayor Leavitt, You’re the Man!

by lewwaters

Submitted By Professor Robert Dean

Ring, Ring!

Leavitt: Government Contracts R Us; Junior Civil Engineer, Tim Leavitt, speaking.

Nathan: Well, well! If it isn’t His Honor, himself!

Leavitt: Nathan? I told you not to call me about city business while I’m at work.

Nathan: Come off it, Tim! You wouldn’t even be Mayor of Vancouver if it wasn’t for me and my prophesies. And, besides, your firm donated $9,000.00 to your campaign. Don’t tell me they didn’t expect to have to share your time and attention with the rest of the city.

Leavitt: Well sure, but you’re not a big developer who can shovel work our way. You’re not even from Tri-Met.

Nathan: You mean “Loot Rail, The Gravy Train, The Crime Train?”

Leavitt: Disparage it all you want, Nathan. I’m in favor of it. I’d even break all my promises about tolls and having the local community pay 1/3 of the cost if it means we get light rail. And besides, Tri-Met hired Government Contracts R Us to be their on-call civil engineering firm. That’s a pretty big feather in our cap considering who else they could have hired instead of us. And the $100,000 doesn’t hurt, either.

Columbian Admits Commissioner Marc Boldt Really Is A Democrat

by lewwaters

After months of demeaning the GOP and insisting County Commissioner Marc Boldt is the real Republican that all Republicans should be like, they have finally admitted what we all knew all along, Marc Boldt is a Democrat pretending to be a Republican to win votes.

http://www.columbian.com/news/2012/oct/20/Candidates-Camas-forum-Monday/

Marc Boldt was swept into office by large Republican majorities and was enticed to sell out those voters who supported him, siding with Liberal Democrat Steve Stuart and Columbia River Crossing proponents.

Pat Jollota Demeans Decorated Veteran, Not Worthy of ‘First Citizen’

by lewwaters

we have been shocked by the animosity between candidates and parties, and have clucked at the vitriolic name-calling. Wish we could go back to the good old days of gentlemanly behavior.” – Pat Jollota October 14, 2012

A June 29, 2012 Press Release from the Community Foundation announced that former Vancouver City Council member Pat Jollota had been selected as the communities latest “First Citizen,” an honor that elated the entire community and brought her much acclaim for the efforts the community has believed she stood for.

Sadly, it is now revealed by her own hand that she is not deserving of such a distinction and should be stripped of it.

As the quote at the very top of this post indicates, for some time now we all have complained about the level of discourse in the political environment. Yes, it’s always been nasty but once was the time that we came together after the election was over and sought middle ground to better serve all points of view.

Those days disappeared some time ago as the vitriol continues unabated as more and more, we see the attitude of ‘my way or the highway’ take precedence, especially from Democrats always playing ‘victim’ and demanding only their view be heard, heeded or adopted.

Any Wonder Why Republicans Are Seen As Crazy Hypocrites?

by lewwaters

We all know there is a double standard when it comes to judging Republicans versus Democrats. Nowhere is this seen more than in what is labeled “family values,” where Republicans are portrayed as squeaky clean, Christian, upright and such, leaving them wide-open for the Saul Alinsky’s Rule 4: “Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. ‘You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity’.”

Democrats receive a pass for such indiscretions, as we saw with B.J. Clinton over the encounter with Monica Lewinsky, Barney Frank whose roommate at one time ran a homosexual prostitution ring out of their shared apartment and several others.

Republicans, on the other hand, are demanded and expected to be squeaky clean and any indiscretion from a Republican is immediate grounds for removal, as we saw with Florida’s Mark Foley and Idaho’s former Representative, Larry Craig.

The GOP is all too willing to comply with demands to oust even the most effective member of the party for any indiscretion or impropriety on their part.

Columbian Caught Sandbagging CRC Reports, Says Red Flags “Not Newsworthy”

by lewwaters

It is well known in our community that the newspaper of record, the Columbian is wholly in the tank for the Columbia River Crossing Project and forcing Portland, Oregon’s financially ailing light rail into our community. We have all seen how they minimize red flags raised, such as the Coast Guard’s refusing to sign off on the design due to insufficient river traffic clearance and even comments left by supporters that barges and ships that may require more than 95 foot clearance, such as the Columbia River Dredge, should cut down their masts or whatever extends higher to clear the light rail planned to be hung underneath the new bridge on a lower level.

Recent revelations by forensic accountant Tiffany Couch of Acuity Group LLC has indicated, through her independent audit of hundreds of documents several red flags, including a potential violation of state law, huge cost overruns potentially not be handled properly and even Millions on cost appearing in CRC documents that appear to be marked to fund expansion and improvement projects inside Oregon, several miles outside of the CRC Transportation area.

This blog covered the first of the three reports released so far here and here. Additional coverage can be found at Couv.com as well as looking through Clark County Politics, both of whom have given the CRC as much critical coverage as I have, if not more.

Columbian Ignores Appearance of Corruption Surrounding CRC

by lewwaters

Thanks to the work of forensic accountant Tiffany Couch and County Commissioner candidate David Madore, the veil wrapped around the Columbia River Crossing Project is gradually being peeled back, not that you will ever read of word of it in the local newspaper of record, the Columbian.

While the Oregonian, the Reflector and the Willamette Week have all published articles and reports critical of the CRC, the Columbian continues to provide cover, ignoring or minimizing recent reports and evidence uncovered and released by Ms. Couch, writing them off as “more of the same.”

They are not.

A previous report covered the potential violation of Washington State Open Meetings Laws, but a subsequent report released on October 12, 2012 delves even deeper into the darkness we have seen associated with the CRC.

Ms. Couch raises several questions that remain unanswered and, not even asked by the Columbian who proudly boasts on their front page, “Serving Clark County, Washington.”

Just who in Clark County is served is debatable.
