Hanoi Jane Celebrated Shooting Down of B-52’s by Communist North Vietnamese

by lewwaters

If ever anyone wonder why so many of us Vietnam Veterans still harbor ill will against this woman, a excerpt from a speech given sometime in the early 1970’s at U.C. Berkeley where students in attendance applaud her claim of 34 American B-52’s being shot down by the Communist North Vietnamese. That is a potential of 170 American Servicemen killed.

MARCH 30: REMEMBER “WELCOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS DAY”

by lewwaters

Submitted by REES LLOYD

“Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day” observances will be held formally in many areas of the country today, March 30, informally in many other areas, and totally ignored in many if not most other areas, except in posts of veterans’ services organization like The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and other VSO’s.

The U.S. House and Senate have by resolutions recognized March 30 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day annually. The observance began at the grass roots, as Americans began to remember and regret the way that Vietnam Veterans, who served honorably when their country called, were treated when they came home.

Many returning troops were vilified. Leftist demonstrators burned the American Flag and marched under the Viet Cong Flag and large photos of Ho Chi Minh, the leader of Communist Vietnam. Troops were called “baby killers,” “war criminals,” and were sometimes insulted and spit upon by self-righteous demonstrators of proclaiming their love of peace with snarls, raised fists, and epithets.

The Columbian: “We Try Not To Be Anybody’s Friend Or Anybody’s Enemy”

by lewwaters

The above words were written Saturday in Columbian editor Lou Brancaccio’s Column, Keep us close. Very close. I have no doubt in my mind they actually believe that. But, apparently it helps to belong to the Democratic Party as they also seem to be just a tad bit “friendlier” to them.

No better proof is seen in their coverage of the abrupt and mysterious resignation of 49th legislative district representative Jim Jacks, a Democrat who resigned suddenly Friday, March 25 giving no reason and saying only he “did not want to publicly discuss the details.” Rumors on Jack’s conduct have been heard for some time and both Clark County Politics blog and my blog reported on word we both received from people up in Olympia about reasons.

Contrasting the lack of interest from the Columbian into Jack’s resigning under cloudy circumstances with how they dug into the misconduct of Republican Richard Curtis in 2007, who wasn’t entitled to a ‘cloak of secrecy’ as they published 14 articles on his inappropriate conduct between Oct. 29, 2007 to Nov. 3, 2007 elicited the to be expected, “The Richard Curtis case was a completely different set of circumstances. (And there were not 14 articles in five days, at least not all from The Columbian.)” from Stephanie Rice, Columbian writer who wrote the article on Jacks.

After listing the 14 articles and the dates they were published, receiving a “sorry Lew, I didn’t know you were counting columns and editorials” (strain the gnat much) from Stephanie, I decided to do some more comparison of the two situations.

Herrera Beutler Discovers Obama’s “Kinetic Military Action”

by lewwaters

It has been a whole week since the Obama administration launched air and sea attacks against the country of Libya, Saturday March 19, 2011. In somewhat of a role reversal, it is Republicans now questioning the necessity of what the Obama administration is calling a “Kinetic Military Action” instead of a “war.”

As one man who has witnessed war, armed conflict or kinetic military action, whatever you wish to call it up close and personal, I question the necessity of all actions that might place our Troops in harm’s way.

From the first bomb dropping, several in congress from both parties questioned the necessity of a third war at this time, which drew the label of it isn’t a war but a “kinetic military action” from the administration. Call it what you will, people are dying from the use of munitions from opposing sides in battle.

I began looking for any word from our newly installed congresscritter Jaime Herrera-Beutler the same day the “Kinetic Military Action” commenced and during the week as well. Knowing she was excessively weak in the area of foreign policy, just one of several reasons why I opposed her candidacy last year, I was prepared to give-up on her taking any coherent stand on this issue.

Democrats Move Swiftly to Fill Seat Abruptly Abandoned by Jim Jacks

by lewwaters

While there appears to remain a news black-out on just what brought about the sudden and abrupt resignation of Democrat 49th legislative district representative Jim Jacks Friday, I applaud the Democrats in Clark County for moving quickly to replace him and fill the seat.

The Wagons Are Circling, But it Isn’t Media Bias

by lewwaters

Once again, Southwest Washington is seeing an unexpected resignation of an elected official under cloudy circumstances. Democrat 49th legislative district representative Jim Jacks abruptly tendered his resignation Friday, March 25, 2011 citing, “personal reasons he did not want to publicly discuss about the details.”

Given the scandalous resignations in the past, such a statement automatically raises red flags and a few eyebrows, you would think. Not so with the Columbian and other newspapers it appears. The Columbian took it a little further than did the Seattle Times, the Olympian and other news agencies in the state such as KOMO News. The Columbian chose to portray Jacks as a “dedicated family man,” choosing a 3 year old file photo of him showing his small daughters his desk in Olympia from back in 2009, while others simply used file photos of him from his legislative web page that rapidly disappeared almost as soon as his resignation was announced.

All articles portrayed this as a surprise resignation, seemingly from out of the blue. But, KOMO News quoted 49th legislative district Senator Craig Pridemore, a fellow Democrat saying, “his resignation had been discussed for a couple of days,” while house majority leader Pat Sullivan said, “He said he needed to take care of some things at home, There’s not much more to say about it. We supported his decision.” KOMO added, “Sullivan refused to divulge any more details.”

Rep. Jim Jacks Abruptly Resigns! Inappropriate Conduct Alleged!

by lewwaters

Confirmed by a source in Olympia, 49th legislative district representative Jim Jacks, Democrat, has tendered his resignation.

See also Clark County Politics for more information

I am also told there will be a special election held in November.

Jacks claiming “personal reasons, he does not want publicly stated

The Columbian

Initial speculation was the reason might be health related. His name has been pulled from the roll-call, his web page has been taken down and he has vacated the House.

The Olympian is reporting, “House Majority Leader Pat Sullivan, D-Covington, put out this statement, which confirmed rumors heard after Jacks failed to show up for committee hearings yesterday:
Rep. Jacks has been a good legislator for the people of his district and a productive member of our caucus. However, we understand his decision to put his family first, and we are accepting that decision.”

Read more: The Olympian

UPDATE: I’m now hearing it alleged that Jacks has been “dealing inappropriately with members of legislative staff of the opposite gender.” Will post more as I hear it.

Comment left at the Olympian

Reply left to the above comment from the Olympian

Seattle Station KOMO News says,

“He said he needed to take care of some things at home,” said Democratic Majority Leader Pat Sullivan, who refused to divulge any more details. “There’s not much more to say about it.”

The resignation raises more questions than answers. His departure came to light as a leadership statement accepting his resignation. There was no official announcement of his quitting.

A call to Jacks’ cellphone by The Associated Press was not immediately returned. His official legislative website has been shut down and his legislative aide did not arrive at the office Friday.

KOMO also updated, “Sen. Craig Pridemore, a Democrat who serves in the same district, said his resignation had been discussed for a couple of days.”

Moveon.org ‘Defend the Dream’ Rally, Vancouver, Part Two

by lewwaters

About 25 members of Moveon.org Vancouver showed for their “Defend the Dream” rally outside of the Vancouver, Washington office of Washington State 3rd Congressional District Representative, Jaime Herrera-Beutler to air their grievances, March 24, 2011.

Herrera Beutler Has Many Faults, but Not Caring About Abducted Children Isn’t One

by lewwaters

Regular readers of Clark County Conservative know that I have little regard for 3rd congressional district representative Jaime Herrera-Beutler. I have never taken politics personal, but due to lies and the corrupt nature of her winning the nomination to run as the Republican candidate in 2010, being labeled a liar by her staff director Casey Bowman for documenting her lying about her support of a piece of legislation that would have forced child care centers into the SEIU, back-stabbing conduct from the likes of Anna Miller and Keath Huff, unethical conduct of 4 county GOP’s, including the majority of the executive board of the Clark County GOP, confirmed by seeing past chair Ryan Hart appointed as Herrera-Beutler’s district manager, fully explaining why he chose to violate an ethical pledge he spoke to me personally about party chairs endorsing candidates during a contested primary and several personal attacks against not only a Republican candidate who would not step aside for the “chosen one” but me personally, this one became personal.

In fact, I can’t stand the girl.

Still, unlike her and her campaign crew, I do not support lies, even if about her.

Libyan Coalition Falling Apart While The Obama’s Party On

by lewwaters

As if we need any further proof of the ineptness of Barack Obama sitting at the top of our country, is ill-advised attack on Libya, after dawdling away for weeks as Libyan rebels were decimated by the forces of Libyan leader, Moammar Gadhafi, a report from the UK Daily Times tells us much of what our own Blamestream Media does not.

Who’s in charge? Germans pull forces out of NATO as Libyan coalition falls apart

Of note at the beginning of the article,

• Tensions with Britain as Gates rebukes UK government over suggestion Gaddafi could be assassinated
• French propose a new political ‘committee’ to oversee operations
• Germany pulls equipment out of NATO coalition over disagreement over campaign’s direction
• Italians accuse French of backing NATO in exchange for oil contracts
• No-fly zone called into question after first wave of strikes ‘neutralises’ Libyan military machine
• U.K. ministers say war could last ‘30 years’
• Italy to ‘take back control’ of bases used by allies unless NATO leadership put in charge of the mission
• Russians tell U.S. to stop bombing in order to protect civilians – calls bombing a ‘crusade’

ABC News soft shoes the situation with U.S. Ready to Hand Over Libya Lead, But Who Will Take It? leaving out all of the mentions of the deepening divide over the unrest on future leadership of the action.

‘Hanoi’ Jane Fonda Dis-invited From Speaking Engagement

by lewwaters

73 year-old Jane Fonda, a name that causes many Veterans, especially of the Vietnam War much angst, has been dis-invited from a speaking engagement she had accepted HERE. She was to speak at a New Hampshire Women’s Leadership Summit scheduled for June 10 at Nashua Community College, but due to several Veterans’ expressing outrage at the invitation, college president Lucille Jordan “dis-invited” the aging actress.

Dr. Annabel Beerel, founder of the summit wrote,

“In recent days, we have heard voices in our community expressing moving objections to the selection of our main keynote speaker. While the summit encourages public discourse and diverse opinions, we do not wish to cause pain to our veterans. In addition to the many outstanding presenters and panels scheduled, we are working on engaging a new keynote (speaker) for the conference.”

Portcouver Mayor, Council Members ‘Irked’ Over Public Records Request

by lewwaters

The ongoing saga of Vancouver City Council versus the citizens of Vancouver was elevated up a few notches with a request made under Washington Public Records Law.

The Zero Reports;

“Members of the Vancouver City Council, six of them the subject of a public records request for months of email correspondence, lamented the wide net cast by the request and the cost of the request to the city at a council meeting Monday.”

“Mitch Copp of Vancouver filed two public disclosure requests with the city earlier this year. The first, filed in January, asks for all of Mayor Tim Leavitt and Councilman Jack Burkman’s email correspondence from June 1 to Jan. 11. The second, filed in March, asks for email correspondence for council members Larry Smith, Jeanne Harris, Pat Campbell and Bart Hansen.”

“The number of documents we’re talking about can number in the tens of thousands, and every one of those documents has to be read by somebody to determine whether it’s disclosable or not,” Vancouver City Manager Eric Holmes said. “We will be responsible to those to fulfill our responsibility under the statute, but it is a pretty substantial burden on our staff resources.”

Leavitt, still licking his chops over successfully modifying citizens speaking rights before the ruling class said, “It’s going to cause a use of city dollars and resources we could otherwise be putting out on the streets in the form of police officers and firefighters.”

This from the same Mayor who doesn’t have a problem hanging the albatross of the Columbia River Crossing Project, including Portland’s financially failing Loot Rail around future generations necks.

Perhaps he shouldn’t have lied to voters on opposing tolls to be elected Mayor.

Portcouver City Council ‘Modifies’ Citizen Speech Rights…. Again

by lewwaters

As taxpayer opposition to the boondoggle Columbia River Crossing Project grows and citizens continue to appear before the Vancouver City Council to express that opposition, especially to extending Portland, Oregon’s financially failing Loot Rail to Vancouver, action had to be taken.

From Washington State Senator Patty Murray to Portland’s Mayor Sam Adams, Vancouver’s ruling class seems to have received orders to squelch the dissent, Murray saying in August 2010, “If there is complete controversy at the local level, it [federal funding] has no chance.” Hence, my calling Vancouver “Portcouver” now, since the ruling class seems to receive marching orders from Portland and beyond.

Nearly everybody has seen or heard of the now famous melt-down of council member Jeanne Harris in September 2010, taped by citizens in attendance that evening, removing any chance of the ruling class erasing the incident. This most embarrassing conduct I have ever witnessed from an elected representative towards those they supposedly represent earned Ms. Harris a minor censure and removal from some committees.

Citizens, on the other hand, faced the scorn of the ruling class with efforts to shut them up, but only if they oppose this bloated project that is destined to be an albatross around future necks. Those wishing to speak in favor of the boondoggle have always been well received by the ruling class, who might have expressed minutes before that Portcouver’s city council has no voice in the project, tolls or extending the bankrupt Loot Rail across the Columbia River.

Obama Proposes Trading Batteries for Brazilian Oil Instead of Drilling Our Own

by lewwaters

The economy remains in a shamble, gas prices continue to rise, millions remain out of work and competing for scarce jobs and Obama flies off to Rio de Janeiro to somehow “help boost U.S. jobs” while starting a third war in the Middle East. Why should I be surprised to read of him also offering a cockamamie idea of trading batteries for Brazil’s oil, while also advocating t hat we need to end our reliance on foreign oil?

Nothing the man has done yet as president has made any sense, but this one even boggles my imagination. Speaking at a CEO Business Summit in Brasilia, Brazil March 19, 2011, on the day he launched the Libyan War, Obama said,

“In the United States, we’ve jumpstarted a clean energy industry and we’ll soon have the capacity to produce 40 percent of the world’s advanced batteries. If we can start sharing these new technologies, and leverage private investment from businesses like the ones in this room, we can grow our economies and clean our environment by making, using, trading, selling clean energy products all over the world.”

Did Someone Forget to Program Obama’s Teleprompter on Libya

by lewwaters

Funny thing about campaigning for high office in this age of electronic technology and using a sitting elected official involved in war as your target, your words are captured for all time for all to see and find in easily accessible archives.

Such is the case with Generalissimo Barack Obama, who relies on his extensive Military background and intricate knowledge of the constitution, when it seems to suit him as he outlined every thing former President George W. Bush did wrong in handling wars and his presidency.

Now that Generalissimo Barack Obama has launched America into a third war in the Middle East, with barely a peep from ardent anti-war activists who wanted to lynch president Bush for fighting back against radical Jihadists after over 2 decades of terrorist attacks against American interests at home and abroad, we can see just how, we can compare similar actions of two men. (Sorry, Obama is really just a mere man after all).

Obama Complicity in Crimes of Muammar Gaddafi?

by lewwaters
Notwithstanding the attacks launched against Libya and their leader Muammar Gaddafi, U.S. complicity in the war crimes of Mr. Gaddafi’s killing of Libyan rebels may well become the most eye-opening issue facing the international community in the coming months.

There is a revealing photograph of Barack Obama shaking hands with the Libyan butcher in 2009 – Muammar Gaddafi. If President Obama were forced to testify at an impartial, international war crimes tribunal, no doubt he would be asked: “What did you know, and when did you know it?

Of all the conventions in humanitarian law, none is more relevant to contemporary affairs than the Nuremberg principle: “Complicity in the commission of a crime against peace, a war crime, or a crime against humanity, is a crime under international law.”

Greedy Public Union Demands Violate International Law!

by lewwaters

The war declared on struggling middle class taxpayers by greedy Public Union bosses has escalated now to the point that supporters of raping more tax dollars from an impoverished middle class have turned to “International Law,” once again ignoring America’s sovereignty and our constitution, placing United Nations mandates in their place.

Ordinarily I’d ignore such efforts to circumvent our sovereignty and rely on our own constitution, but since greedy public union bosses and those they have misled wish to take this avenue, I’ll play along. They may not like that too much, though.

I first saw this tactic of circumventing our sovereignty with James Taranto taking Brian Leiter, a left-liberal philosopher who teaches at the University of Chicago to task at the Wall Street Journal in his article, The Leiter Side of Union Thuggery.

Leiter makes two points on his page here,

1. Collective bargaining is, per the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a human right.
2. There are circumstances in which violations of human rights call for unlawful actions, including violence.

Similarly, we now see supporters of the greedy public union bosses citing Amnesty International, who on March 17, 2011 issued their “Warning on US states’ plan to severely restrict workers’ rights .”

Unions and Democrats Continue ‘Sticking It’ to the Middle Class

by lewwaters

As states continue struggling with massive budget gaps and taxpayer dollars dry up due to high unemployment, Wisconsin took a bold step to finally grasp control of their past history of over spending. First they elected a majority Republican legislature and a Republican governor willing to stand up to the greedy public unions, one source of out of control spending.

Democrats still in the legislature, instead of debating the new bill proposed that would limit some collective bargaining of the unions, fled the state in an effort to prevent the bill from being voted on, denying the legislature a quorum.

Why Is A New York Firm Supporting Raising Clark County Taxes?

by lewwaters

As matters concerning the I-5 Bridge project and extending Portland’s financially failing Loot Rail into Vancouver heat up, we now see a group started up to support the project and “campaign for a pair of C-Tran ballot measures to boost the sales tax in Clark County to improve bus service and operate an extension of Portland’s light-rail transit system on a new I-5 bridge” according to a Columbian article, Group forms in support of new I-5 bridge.

No problem with a group supporting the project, that’s the way our system works. We have NoTolls.com headed by successful Vancouver businessman David Madore. And now, we see Keep Clark County Moving started by Tim Schauer, president of MacKay & Sposito engineering firm in Vancouver and philanthropist Ed Lynch.

A new group that I am unable to find a web page for so far and who, we are told, has raised “$14,525 in contributions as of Thursday” to launch their campaign to entice us to pay more in taxes to drag Portland’s Loot Rail over and fund C-Trans buses.

Smoke & Mirrors Will Not Fuel America’s Economy

by lewwaters

The economy remains in a shamble, gasoline prices are leaping higher and higher heaping more expenses on the already struggling middle class, many seeking employment and continuing the lack of any leadership we have had since he took office, Barack Obama is headed off to Rio de Janeiro to “help boost U.S. jobs.”

The Middle East remains a hotbed of unrest. Japan is experiencing a nuclear meltdown after suffering a devastating earthquake and tsunami and the world that has come accustomed to looking to the United States of America for leadership during times of crisis, sees her president vacationing, playing golf and attending parties.

Americans too look towards Washington D.C. for leadership while unemployment remains unrealistically high, paychecks dwindling in the private sector while Public Unions rally for more shrinking tax dollars and gasoline leaps closer to $4.00 a gallon and likely beyond.

Addressing taxpayers’ worries, Obama said he was thinking about releasing some oil from the Strategic Preserve as our imported oil exceeds $100 a barrel. But what about our own oil languishing in the ground all over America and off of our shores?

Our oil remains were it is, locked away while oil companies are prohibited from accessing and recovering our own massive resources. In answer to that, current Senate Leader, Harry Reid (D. NV) and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar like to point out that oil companies already have several leases they will not use for drilling. Harry Reid, in what is being labeled a “use it or lose it” policy claims,

“Oil and gas companies are currently sitting on approximately 60 million acres of oil and gas leases that are going unused,” Reid’s office said in a statement. “At the same time they are holding back on domestic production, these same oil companies are reaping record profits from high gas prices. And Republicans are protecting this shell game, at a high cost to consumers.”
