Now You Speak Up, Congressman Baird?

by lewwaters

Brian Baird, Democrat congressman in Washington’s 3rd congressional district decided to hang it up and retire after this term, his 6th. For nearly all of his 12 years allegedly representing us in the 3rd C.D., he remained mostly loyal to his party, especially since Democrats seized control in the 2006 elections and Nancy Pelosi began her reign as Speaker of the House.

Baird is following in the footsteps of many who went before him. He wrote a book about his time in office, “Character, Politics and Responsibility: Restarting the Heart of the American Republic.”

Baird, well known for “official” congressional trips to exotic locales takes some pretty controversial stands in his book.

Vote Jobs

by lewwaters

Less than 4 days are left to mark and turn in your ballots. I like to carry mine down to the drop box and others will drop them in the mail. If by mail, be sure to have them at the Post Office early enough to make sure they are postmarked before the Tuesday 8 PM deadline.

Tim Likeness, our elections manager says, “The biggest issue we tend to have is that we have so many that get postmarked the day after” going on to add that about 600 ballots were received with a postmark too late to be counted in the recent primary election.

We have a lot of candidates running in this mid-term election and several initiatives to sort out, all of which are just as important as getting our ballots in on time. We have heard all of the Democrat vs. Republican rhetoric and barbs thrown back and forth and now must decide who and what we want.

Hard core Democrats, like their Republican counterparts will undoubtedly vote party line as usual and as usual, the actual selection will be left in the hands of Independents, the center of our population that adheres to neither party down the line.

Our country is in deep trouble with a lingering recession and no viable solutions on the table just yet. Unemployment remains higher than it has been in several decades with benefits running out and so few actual jobs being offered.

Democrats! Will They Ever Learn?

by lewwaters

Once again, the nation has made the folly of giving Democrats full control of the government and once again, they are poised to lose an election of historical proportions after a short time holding the reins of power.

As times before, many promises were made that fell hollow as they plunged the nation deeper into despair. Catchy slogans to win elections have shown themselves to be meaningless. FDR’s “New Deal,” LBJ’s “Great Society,” Carters “A Leader, For a Change,” Clinton’s “Putting People First” and now Obama’s “Change We Can Believe In” and “Yes We Can!” are giving way to “Change it back” and “No, you won’t” as poll after poll is showing that Tuesdays mid-term elections appear to be poised as blow-outs, placing the GOP back in congressional control.

Mysterious Trees Make News, Allegations Against Tony Golik Do Not

by lewwaters

Wednesdays headline in the Columbian blared how one man is upset over how a line of trees block his view from the road of an area of Salmon Creek that is much like a swamp. We are led to believe that the 400 Ft. line of trees just mysteriously appeared, suddenly. We are led to believe this is news of supreme importance to the community.

Meanwhile, we are days away from selecting who will replace retiring Art Curtis as County Prosecutor and the Columbian barely notes that one candidate, Tony Golik, the Democrat of their choice, has allegations of Prosecutorial Misconduct pending from a previous felony case.

Cut county costs, not public services

by lewwaters

Contributed by Margaret Tweet

Clark County employees contribute $0 to insurance premiums for Medical, Dental, Vision, Long term disability, and Life insurance. Clark County Commissioners voted on October 12 to extend the $0 contribution plan through 2011, add another holiday (14 yearly), and freeze wages for 3 large union groups. In 2012 county employees may contribute to premiums, and a definite salary hike of 2% was granted. This agreement sets the standard for the rest of the county, about 1,640 employees altogether.

Vancouver 11 Year-Old Starts Anti-Bully Campaign

by lewwaters

Bullies have been around forever it seems. In every walk of life, age group and class, they exist. They seek out those smaller than them to power over them, driving some victims of their bullying to suicide all too often.

Alexis Miller, 11 year-old Wy East Middle School student is a talented young lady. She is a local actress and model, singer and aspiring songwriter. She is of slight build, intelligent and very attractive, all traits that bullies like to seek out in their victims to ridicule or belittle, and at times, beat up on.

Alexis is tired of being bullied. She’s been bullied since she was in kindergarten, at one point having to be pulled out of school and not being able to leave her apartment. She is ready to push back on the bullies, not fall prey to them any longer.

Jeanne ‘Gavel Down’ Harris Forgives Community, Resumes Council Duties

by lewwaters

Vancouver, Washington’s city council member, Jeanne Harris, known nationally for her abusive mannerism towards citizens and fellow council members, has returned from her successful and enjoyable month-long vacation throughout Germany.

Prior to the ‘citizen’s communication’ segment of Monday evenings council meeting, Ms. Harris was granted a “personal point of privilege’ to speak to the community. After outlining what a wonderful time she had during her month-long trip, she spent a few seconds to say her trip gave her time “to think about what happened” and stating she realize there was “absolutely no excuse” for her behavior and it was “inappropriate.”

Monica Stonier Declared Her Dedication to Obama, not Constituents

by lewwaters

Yes, that’s right, in 2008 Monica Stonier, Democratic candidate for the 17th legislative district position 2 seat, stated in 2008, “I know I will be asked questions about Obama and will approach those questions with a balance between my educator responsibility to provide balanced information about government and civic responsibility with my dedication to Obama and his ideal that getting active will lead to getting informed.” (emphasis in original)

by lewwaters

Portland, Oregon’s KPAM 860 has received the honor of being selected by the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation to receive the prestigious 2010 Service to Community Award for Radio.

KPAM 860, an AM station owned by Pamplin Media is a voice of sanity hailing out of the midst of the far left-leaning city of Portland. In the highly competitive field of broadcasting, being singled out with top honor like this is quite an accomplishment.

Columbian Remains Mum on Allegations Against Democrat Tony Golik

by lewwaters

In a follow-up release from Clark County GOP’s earlier October 13 notice of serious allegations of Prosecutorial Misconduct against Democratic candidate Tony Golik, running for Clark County Prosecutor, party chair Ryan Hart questions why the newspaper of record for Clark County, does not mention the allegations raised by Seattle attorney Neil Fox in Clark County Superior Court.

Hart mentions the Columbian’s response of “The official position of the Columbian is that they will not report the allegations until the judge has made a ruling.” Apparently, that is their “official position” only when allegations are raised against a Democrat candidate they have endorsed.

Hart rightfully notes the recent revelation in the Columbian of unproven allegations against the conservative group opposing tolling of a new I-5 Bridge to defray the cost of adding light rail to the project, NoTolls.com.

‘Uncle’ Bud Is Coming Home

by lewwaters

Few things are savored by Military families as much as when a loved one off to war finally gets to come home. As in all of our wars, too many don’t come home at all and others are absent from their families and loved ones too long. Far too long for some.

That is the sad saga of SSgt Claude ‘Bud’ Ray who is scheduled to arrive back home and be reunited with his mother, October 27, 2010, 67 years to the day that the B-24 Liberator he and 11 other American crewmembers disappeared over Japanese occupied New Guinea during severe weather on October 27, 1943.

“Don’t Vote,” More Feigned Democrat Outrage

by lewwaters

Ever mindful of Rahm Emanuel’s admonition of “never let a good crisis go to waste,” I see Democrats have launched a campaign of outrage over a short-lived ad from Nevada urging Latino’s “Don’t Vote” due to their votes be taken advantage of.

Mitch Stewart of BarackObama.com, also known as Organizing for America sent out an email I received this morning titled “If you don’t fight back, they’ll get away with it,” implying the ad, created and ran by one man, Robert de Posada, founder of Latinos for Reform is an official Republican Party operation against Democrat Nevada Senator, Harry Reid.

Patty Murray Finds Illegal Aliens to do the Campaigning Americans Won’t Do

by lewwaters

Illegal immigration is an ongoing problem within the United States with millions of undocumented aliens having snuck across our borders for various reasons. Most come to find a better life here instead of working to better their home country. Some come to carry drugs or other contraband into the country and some come with the intent to cause harm to American Citizens.
